What happened to the Golden Rule?

Xerxes Reading The Bible
There was a time when people believed in the Golden Rule.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This comes from The Bible in the book of Matthew the seventh chapter and verse twelve.

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."

Jesus is speaking. The above is from the King James Version of the Bible (KJV) and the following is from The International Standard Version (ISV).

"Therefore, whatever you want people to do for you, do the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”

Almost all religions and beliefs share this idea of treat others the way you would want to be treated.

But today we live in a much more self-centered world. It appears that a majority of the population of the world has become stuck in junior high school.

Way back in time when I attended Starr-Iva Middle School, it was the thing for some people to try to build themselves up by putting other people down. It was the thing to make fun of those who would fall victim to the taunts and ridicule.

One thing that is clear is that those who did the ridiculing did not make their lives any better than it would have been without the ridicule whereas the lives of those who were put down were made majorly worse.

If you take a look at many of those people who become mass murders or serial killers, you will find a person who was made fun of by young idiots who were so maladjusted themselves that they had to put others down.

Unfortunately, those abusers are now members of the local school board and/or are in other positions of power over other people’s lives.

One big question then is, did they grow out of it? One quick look at some of the social media sites would suggest that they not only did not grow out of it, it got much worse.

There is a photo of a heavyset woman in a bikini. This woman is secure enough in herself to sit out in this bikini.

Yet, many, so called, pillars of the community are posting this photo and making fun of her. Their justification is that she should not be exposing herself to them if she did not want to be made fun of.

First of all by this logic if a person who is wearing a bikini or any other garment that is remotely revealing is raped then it is his/her own fault.

They should not be exposing themselves in this way if they did not want this kind of attention. Some very little minds would not be able to see the comparison.

I, for one, don’t wish to see a woman’s breasts exposed to the world. I don’t wish to see them. For those who wish to see these things there are private clubs they could go to in order to do so.

In years gone by what is passing as fashion now was seen as indecent exposure.

For me, I am an old fashioned conservative male. I always found the modest dress of a woman to be the most appropriate.

I never thought of tattoos as anything but trashy. More than one piercing in the ear was too much and piercing anything else was and is just vulgar. But I digress.

Both women and men should dress in such a way as to leave certain areas of their bodies covered.

Men should not walk around with their butts hanging out of their clothing. They should keep their pants pulled up and their underwear out of sight.

But what about the people who make fun of other people? If everyone were modestly dressed would their subject matter for ridicule be taken?

Unfortunately, no, it would not. Recently I have seen a picture of an elderly woman walking along with her waste collection bag exposed.

This happens all the time. For the elderly just trying to move is a major undertaking. For them trying to keep a waste collection bag out of sight is just too much of a strain.

But, rather than have the kind of compassion that we should show one another, pictures of this poor woman are circling the World Wide Web. And, each time they are posted, some immature person or persons will make a comment about this poor lady.

What if it were you? What if, no matter how hard you tried, you could not lose weight? What if due to a lack of vitamin D, your body could not process food that was taken in properly and therefore it was stored as fat?

What if your doctor told you the only way you were going to get well was to expose as much of your skin to the sun as possible?

What if you put your pride behind you and, through great personal embarrassment, you put on a bikini and found a supposedly secluded area to sun bathe and some obnoxious photographer snapped your picture? How would you feel?

What if you no longer had control of your bodily waste removal functions? What if you had to carry a waste collection bag with you?

What if the only clothes you had and could afford would not allow you to conceal this waste collection bag?

What if you had to get out to the store to purchase vital medications? What if no one would help you by going to get it?

What if you heard and/or saw someone making fun of you when you went out to get the medications you needed to live? Would you still go out to get it?

Mark Wills’ song Don't Laugh At Me  should always play in our minds when we see someone like this.

Perhaps instead of making fun of these people we should be thanking God that it is not us. There, but by the Grace of God, go I.

A final note: Do those of you who have reposted this image realize that you have violated the law?

Unless you personally have a model release form signed by the person in the picture you could be sued!  Maybe those in the pictures should sue every one of you.  Who would be laughing then

What do you think?
