Merry Christmas

Last night Suzanne and I watched a movie called Christmas with a Capital C. In this movie a small town in Alaska has a fifty year tradition of putting up a Nativity Scene. Enter a lawyer who used to live in the town and the law suits start.

Some very interesting thoughts are raised here. Why do towns, businesses, and people now refrain from saying “Merry Christmas?” It is okay to say “Happy Holidays “or “Season’s Greetings,” but let someone say Merry Christmas and we need to call out the S. W. A. T. team.  We must make sure we don’t offend anyone by using God’s name.

It seems like it is okay to use God’s name as a swear word in public, in the movies, or on the public airwaves, but we can’t praise Him without risk of a lawsuit. The Bill of Rights grants us freedom OF religion not freedom FROM religion.

Somehow society has come to the conclusion that Christians are to be feared. If a Christian says a prayer at a sporting event, the ACLU has a fit. However, if someone, anyone, swears using God’s name that person has the right to do so because of freedom of speech.

In the closing credits one of the actors gives a monolog in which he points out that there is only one holiday that we celebrate in December. Yes, I know that there is Hanukah and Kwanza, but the whole idea behind the Holiday Season is Christmas.

In February we have Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day. Does anyone wish you “Happy Holidays” then? No, they call it what it is- Happy Valentine’s Day. Guess what, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of a Saint.
We have Santa Claus everywhere. Why is he here? It isn’t for Kwanza or Hanukah; he is here for Christmas. We now have “Holiday Trees” and “Winter Holidays”. Guess what, people? If you bought anything on Black Friday, you were part of a Christmas celebration plain and simple.

Don’t wish me Happy Holidays. Don’t wish me Seasons Greetings. Wish me a Merry Christmas.

Jesus is the reason for the season. Merry CHRISTmas.
