Wednesday Hodgepodge - 26 October 2016

For more information about this fun weekly event, please click the image below.

1. Besides your very own house, describe a place where you feel most 'at home'?

In a word, nowhere.  Ever since we left South Carolina, nothing has felt like home.  If I had to pick a place, I would say in our little car, Zoomie.  He is one of the few things or places we can truly say is ours. Well, ours and Ford Credit.

2. When did you last 'hit a home run' with something? Explain.

I think we have had several homeruns, as it were.  One is our video, Differentiation Vitality Curve.  The name sounds kind of scary.

As best I can tell, our video is one of the most popular places to go to find out what it is and why it is important for business people to understand the concept.  We get more watches of this video from other countries than we do for any other video.

Another homerun, video-wise, is  Handcuff Your Kids. Recently, this video has been watched more times than all of our other videos.  It amazes me that it gets so many views.

I think the FIRST time I hit a home run was when I married Suzanne, almost 32 years ago.  I have no regrets.  I think I hit it out of the park on that day.

3. Tell us about something you love in your house or kitchen that is 'homemade'.

I have made several tables that we have in our house.  They will not show up on a Better Homes and Gardens show anytime soon.  I did not build these to look good.  They are rustic, bare wood.  I built them to stand up better than the desks we were able to buy.

I truly believe that if we put two of these side-by-side to make them wide enough, we could park a Greyhound bus on them and they would hold the weight.

Suzanne’s homemade anything is great.  She makes great deviled eggs. She likes to bake and does a darn good job, when she gets the chance.

4. 'A man's home is his castle'...which of the world's ten most captivating castles (according to The Travel Channel) would you most like to visit and why-
Mont Saint-Michel (France), Edinburgh Castle (Scotland), Neuschwanstein Castle (Germany), Glamis Castle (Scotland), Windsor Castle (England), Chateu de Chambord (France), Hampton Court Palace (England), Prague Castle (Prague), St. Michael's Mount (England), Leeds Castle (England), and Swallow's Nest (Ukraine)

Either of the castles in Scotland would be great.  I would also like to visit some in Ireland.

We also have what has been called a castle in Asheville, North Carolina.  The Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina is especially nice this time of year.  There are still some fall leaves to give color and they are decorating the estate for Christmas.

Suzanne and I went to the Biltmore Estate on the next to the last day of our honeymoon.  It was great.

Yes, the above links are affiliate links for the Biltmore Estate, as is this one.  But, Suzanne and I really love the estate and want to share it with anyone who can go see it.  We really love the place.

5. What's a recent or upcoming plan or project that's required you do a little homework before getting started? Did the homework cause you to abandon your plan or adjust it in some way?

As most of you have read, we are currently working on our How to Manage
your Monkey course in “Life Recipe.”  I am constantly reading trying to find more ways to save money and frugal recipes.

Nothing has changed due to this research.  Some things have been added to it.

The course has a “Grand Opening” 3 November 2016, but is already in a soft opening now.

6. In your opinion, is homework an unnecessary evil or a valuable practice? Should schools be done with homework?  Why or why not?

When I was going to school, I usually did my homework between classes or during time in a class when we were not currently doing anything.  The only year I had a free period (study hall) was my senior year.  I had two of them back-to-back.

We homeschooled our children, so everything was homework.  When our children were in public school, we encouraged them to do school work at home to help them learn better.

Truthfully, I think every person should be homeschooled.  Most of the school day is wasted in public schools. There are all sorts of administrative kinds of things that take up teachers’ time.

I think the only way that schools can make up for this wasted time is with homework.

For the unfortunate ones who have to be in public school that is the only way they can make up for all the wasted time.  I was public schooled and thought school was a joke.  My grades were not that great, but in most classes the work was not a challenge.

7. Share a favorite memory of your childhood hometown.

Up until I was twelve, I really did not have a “hometown”.  We lived in the suburbs.

There was a lot of house constructing going on.  We lived in Norcross, Georgia, from the time I was five until I was eight.  My father taught me that I could make a little cash by going to the construction sites when the guys were gone for the day and pick up their soft drink bottles.  In Atlanta, all soft drinks are called Coke, even if it is a Pepsi.

I would get a wagon load of bottle and my dog Blackie and I would walk to the store and cash them in.  I would buy comic books, Coke, and candy and still have money to put in my Johnson & Johnson Brand Band Aid box.

When we moved to Inman, South Carolina, I was able to do the same thing.  We were there from the time I was eight until just before I turned twelve.

But probably the best “hometown’, memories came once we moved to Iva, South Carolina.  My parents had a Western Auto Store.  My father, mother, sister, and I all worked like dogs in the store and at our house keeping the business going.  It was hard work and I loved it.

We could be a family.  We could work together.  The store was like our house where all our friends came by to visit.   When they were there, they would often take our stuff.

When they took our stuff, our friends were so happy that we did not stop them that they gave us money.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Up until now, I have remained silent on the Presidopetul election.  Neither candidate is a good choice.  Both are terrible.  We have a baby killer and an egotistical jerk.

We learned that there is a great third party candidate who is Christian, Prolife, and actually understands Economics.  The first two are deal breakers.  If a candidate is not Christian and Prolife, we look no further.

Darrell Castle is what we have been looking for in a candidate. We have early voted and were glad we found him before we voted.  If you have not yet cast your ballot, let me suggest you check him out.

Have a great week. Thanks for stopping by and reading this.  Please leave a comment in the comment box and pop over to our YouTube Channel.

  4. Hubs and I visited Biltmore in February. We hadn't been since the year we got married (32 years ago!) but it hadn't changed all that much. The town around the estate has most definitely grown up, but the estate is still lovely and definitely worth a visit. Enjoy your day!

    1. The last time Suzanne and I went was not too long after our oldest son was born, He needed to have his diaper changed and there was no place to lay him down. I learned how to change a baby with a poopie diaper with one hand while balancing him on the other arm. Other than that, the tour was great.

  6. I love how you love Suzanne and your not afraid to say it! A third party will never win so it is best to pick the worst of both evils in my opinion.
