Wednesday Hodgepodge - 16 November 2016

For more information about this fun weekly event, please click the image below.

1. Let's all think happy thoughts...share one of yours here.

A happy thought would be remembering all the beauty of the fall back home in civilization.  We don’t get a fall here.  The leaves fall off the trees in spring when the new growth pushes out the old.

A fresh-grown mountain apple on a crisp fall morning is heaven on earth.

2. There's a Chinese proverb that says, "If you want happiness for an hour take a nap, if you want happiness for a day-go fishing...." What say you? If you want happiness for a day _____________.

I am generally a happy person, no matter what.  As long as I have Suzanne by my side, I am happy.  However, a nice long ride in the country makes me happy.  Put some drinks and sandwiches in a cooler and hit the open road.  That would be great.

3. Where do you go to decompress from the world around you?

Back when I could still walk, we used to go out to Brazos Bend State Park, which is about 30 miles or so from here.  There are alligators everywhere.  One can walk around and be within inches of an alligator if they like.  We found this out by noticing that one was within inches of Suzanne.  She was avoiding one and walking right beside another.

There are some great photo opps out there.  Unfortunately, one needs to be able to walk very well to walk the park.

4. What song never fails to make you happy?

Allen Jackson’s “Living on Love”.  The old song "Don’t Worry, Be Happy" does, too.  Jon Anderson’s "Haunted House" does as well.

5. Wednesday is National Fast Food Day. Should that be a thing? Apparently it is, so tell us what's the last 'fast food' you consumed? If you were putting together your own version of a 'happy meal' what would you include?

We have a National Day for everything else, why not fast food?

The last fast food we had was when Suzanne and I, along with our oldest daughter, went to Dairy Queen to get banana splits to celebrate a milestone on our YouTube channel.   Before that, Suzanne and I split a 20 piece chicken nugget at McDonald’s.  This time it tasted like the food had been reheated or cooked in old oil.  It was a disappointment.

My version of a happy meal would be two McRib sandwiches, a large order of fries, a large Diet Coke, and a My Little Pony toy.

6. In a few sentences tell us why you blog.

Come on now, Joyce. You know this old redneck can’t say anything in just a few sentences.

I had been telling stories to our kids for years.  Our youngest daughter suggested that I write them down.  Suzanne suggested that I write them as blog posts and share them with the world.  Our youngest daughter then suggested that I record these as well.  Since our kids are scattered around the world, it made sense to post them on line.

My Redneck MBA blog was meant to help teach business concepts to people who don’t want to read a bunch of business jargon just to learn the concepts.

7. List seven things you're feeling especially grateful for today.

I am grateful for another day on this side of the dirt.
I am thankful that the ulcer on the bottom of my foot is healed.
I am also grateful that God blessed me with my beautiful child-bride.
He also blessed me with some pretty awesome kids.
I am grateful that we have food on the table.
I am grateful for a roof over our heads.
I am grateful that we have Skype so we can be in contact with our kids.

We have seen one of our children be attacked financially way too much recently, from her financial aid being reduced drastically to hackers stealing her money.

But, we have seen some pretty awesome things happen in this, too, from school employees sharing part of their lunch with her to Starbucks employees taking pity on her and walking her to class.

This girl takes 21 semester hours at the State Honors College and still makes the dean's list.  Her siblings are awesome, too.  Her sister and one of her brothers do all they can to help her.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

This election is finally over.  I am glad it is behind us.  There was so much snarkiness going on that it makes one wonder, "Is this still America?"  People get very emotional over who was the better of the two candidates.

May we put this all behind us and move on. Thanks for stopping in.

  1. Your happy thought is a great one. Maybe we'll get to go back home some day to see those color changes and get some yummy apples, too.

    2. Zoomie is more than ready. :) He keeps saying, "Moogie, when are we going? You and Daddy talk so much about "back home" that I want to go, too!"

    3. I know. As soon as we have the money, and the time, as well as a puppy sitter, we can go.

  2. My happy song is "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line. Always reminds me of my high school days when we used to cruise down main street of my little town. Young and carefree. Ah for simpler days... amen?

    1. I don't think I have ever heard that song. Life was more simple back in the day. If Suz and I could go back and re-live some of those carefree days, it would be wonderful.

  3. I too am greatful for skype. We moved away from the grandkids and it is a wonderful way to see them grow up. It is so nice they can carry on great conversations now.

    1. It makes those far away seem closer. It isn't quite as good as having them here with us. It will do until they can be here.

  4. Maybe you can't get around like you use to, but a road trip to the woods is just as satisfying when it comes to relaxation. I too suffer from limited mobility these days and always enjoy a road trip to clear my head. Have a great week.
    Cheers!

    1. Road trips are nice. There really isn't any place around here to go to. We would have a long drive to get anywhere with pretty scenery. All the stuff around here is same-o same-o. If you have seen one cow, you have seen them all. One cornfield looks pretty much like all the others. Thanks for stopping in and sharing. Maybe we can drive back East..

  6. I love the Alan Jackson song, "Livin' On Love"! That's a great song.
I'm glad to hear that your foot is doing better. I hope it continues to improve.
I'm sorry you don't have a good KFC in your area. We have a couple of good ones within a 40 minute drive of us. Now I'm hungry, thinking about KFC and that banana split you mentioned...

    1. Back when we lived in civilization, we used to enjoy jumping in the car and taking a long ride. Now that we live here on the Gulf Coast of Texas, any ride is a long ride. We live in the city, but still have to drive 30+ miles to see a doctor or do almost anything else. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great Thanksgiving.
