Wednesday Hodgepodge 30 November 2016

Wednesday Hodgepodge
To learn more about this fun weekly event, please click the image below.

1. Give us three rhyming words that say something about your Thanksgiving holiday (or your most recent holiday gathering if you didn't celebrate Thanksgiving).

Slurp: the sound of me eating.
Burp: the sound of me after I have enjoyed my meal.
Shnurp: the sound of me sleeping off all the great food Suzanne cooked.

2. When did you last say, 'the more the merrier'? Did you mean it?

This has probably been a long time ago.  I can’t remember when I said it, or even if I said it.  This is one of those things that is not normally a part of my speech.

3. What's one piece of advice you'd give someone who is your same age?

How about eat lots of roughage.  The key to life is eating lots of stuff that cleans out your system.

4. You're ordering a veggie plate, what four veggies are on it?

I love vegetables.  I am going to start out with one of those controversial vegetables. Here in the South, a tomato is a vegetable.  It always has been and always will be.  I have no idea why anyone would think this thing is a fruit of some kind.

Broccoli, I love the stuff. Then, we add cauliflower.  We put the two of those together and add some carrots.  Get you a big old bottle of Ken’s Ranch Salad Dressing and use it as a dip.

Now, I know that Hidden Valley Ranch is the leading seller of ranch dressing.  We used to buy it all the time, too.  However, we are about as poor as Joe’s turkey.

One day, we wanted some ranch dressing but could not afford to get the Hidden Valley brand.  I thought that we would take a chance on this much cheaper brand.  We tried it and we loved it.

Tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots.

5. Shop till you drop! Did you? Have you ever? Will you between now and Christmas?

I hate shopping.  I have been with my mother when she was shopping and I hated it.  Thankfully, Suzanne does not like to shop either.  We are on a very small, fixed income and cannot afford to shop.  We get the few groceries we need at Walmart and then we leave as quickly as we can.

We are trying to stay out of any store this Christmas season.  It is not about presents; it is about celebrating the birth of Jesus.  We have no money to give presents, so we don’t go shopping.

6. What's your favorite chair in your house, and why is it a favorite?

Suzanne and I have two chairs in our house.  She has one and I have one.  These sit in front of our computers.  When I am not in my chair, our grand-dogger jumps up in it.  We bought our chairs used from a flea market.  My chair is my favorite, even though it is broken.  Suzanne’s is her favorite, even though it tries to kill her every time she goes to sit down.

7. Share an early memory of faith, religion, or spirituality.

This is something I share quite often.  I tell this story at the drop of a hat.  If you would like to see it, you can see it here.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I am all for cultural diversity.  I think it is a good thing for businesses to try to accommodate those who are in this country who cannot speak American yet.
American is a blending of English, German, French, Czech, Native American languages, AND Spanish.  If you really want to make me irritated, tell me you have literature in BOTH languages.

I get really annoyed when I go to a business, especially one that has branches all over the country, and they have signs up in ONLY Spanish.  Welcome to The United States of America. Many restaurants have changed their traditional recipes to make them more spicy.  If you want to offer a spicy variety of something, fine.  Just be sure that you also have something for those of us who can no longer eat spicy foods.

If you want to put a sign up in Spanish, fine.  But if you want my business, you are going to need to have your sales literature in American.

If you are going to live in the United States of America, you should learn to speak and read American.  If I go to practically any other country in the world, I am going to have to understand their language.

Have a great week y’all.  We will see y’all next week.

If you would like for me to pray for you, please drop me an e-mail by clicking prayer.

    1. Joyce, thank you for stopping by and commenting. Speaking as one who has studied retail and how we manipulate the shopper, everything we do is designed to get you to make an impulse buy.

If we can make you spend just a little more time in the store, we can put something else in front of you that, chances are good, you will buy.

    2. Mr BC shares your view on your random thought. I always figure if the info is in another language only, that they really don't want my business.

  4. Nice to learn more about you. I agree that when one moves to the USA, they should learn the language. I saw a cool bumper sticker once that said "Welcome to America, Now Speak English"

    1. Thanks for dropping in. It is sad that here in America the PC crowd has made it where the burden is on the citizens to communicate with the immigrants and not the other way around.
