Share Your World – January 9, 2017

If you lost a bet and had to dye your hair a color of the rainbow for a week, what color would it be?

This one is easy.  Although I am about as redneck as they come, I have worn colored wigs in a womanless wedding and once wore one for our youngest daughter when she dressed me up as a woman and put a wig on me and makeup.  She then wheeled me around the LTAC Hospital when I was recovering from having a toe amputation.

The wigs I wore for both were a very bright green.  I am a big fella and seeing me dressed up like this being pushed around in my wheelchair by our daughter brightened the staff’s evening.

If you could choose one word to focus on for 2017, what would it be?

Overcome.

We have so much to overcome this year.  Suzanne needs the surgery.  We have to overcome the lack of money situation we are in to get it.  We will get the surgery paid for.  We will overcome this obstacle.

What was one thing you learned last year that you added to your life?

That it ain’t over till it’s over, to quote Babe Ruth.   When I was lying there in the carport looking up at the cat after having the first stroke, I thought to myself, “I don’t want to go out like this.”  There is too much life to live and I intend to live it as best I can.

If life was ‘just a bowl of cherries’… which fruit other than a cherry would you be..?

This reminds me of some of those psychological surveys they used to give us at school back in the day.  If I were a fruit, I guess I would be a banana.  I have been accused of being bananas before.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that we were able to spend time with our baby girl.  I am also thankful that we were able to get her back to her Island safe and sound.  I am NOT grateful that she has to be so far away.  I am grateful our oldest daughter is here with us for a while.

I am grateful for my child-bride Suzanne and all the wonderful things she does for me.

This week I am looking forward to… I have no idea.  The new year is past us.  We had the car inspected.  I don’t know what to look forward to.  We did find pimento cheese in the Walmart.  We had not been able to find that before.  I guess I am looking forward to a pimento cheese sandwich.

We had our winter here in Texas last week. It got down to about 20 degrees, which is very unusual.  We even had snow but it melted before it hit the ground.  Can you believe that?  Snow in Gulf Coast Texas.  By Friday the 13th, we will be back up to our usual January temperatures.  Our high will be 80 that day.

Remember, all of our books will be free January 24th and 27th so, grab yourself a free copy and read them while you are stuck inside during the cold.

  3. Your answers made me chuckle. Sometimes I think those who face some of the biggest obstacles, face them with humor to get them through them. I can just imagine those grins on the staff at the hospital. They need to be able to have some fun as much as the rest of us.
