Wednesday Hodgepodge - 25 January 2017

1. "The cure for anything is salt water-tears, sweat, or the sea." (Isak Dinesan) Would you agree? Of the three, which has 'cured' you most recently?

I have been taught something similar to this.  A little salt water poured over a wound often helps.  A good gargle with warm salt water helps with sore throats.  Sometimes a good cry fixes a good many problems.

Sometimes what it takes is sweat.  Sometimes we have to get in there and do some very hard work to get it done.   A little sweat and a drink of ice water can cure many things.

2. What's something you can't eat without salt? Do you normally salt your food a lot, a little, or not at all?

Tomatoes.  Tomatoes absolutely have to have salt, and lots of it.  I try to avoid salt as much as I can, but sometimes I just needs me some salt.  I like salt on popcorn.  I try not to overdo it but, it happens.

I swell a good bit, so I am trying to reduce my salt as much as possible.

3. Sands of time, bury your head in the sand, built on sand, or draw a line in the sand...which sandy phrase could best be applied to something in your life right now?

Don’t get me started.  I am a big redneck who believes that sometimes it takes the board of education, if you get my meaning, to educate a few people.  When someone messes with my family, which happened just this past Monday, you better hope that I can keep my cool.

Back when I was in the rescue squad, we often had to take out victims of bar fights.  I have had to fight my way out of numerous redneck bars and, although I don’t want to, I may have to use this experience to educate a Select Few of them people out there who messed with my daughter’s emotions this past Monday. If you need to know details, ask via email and not via this blog post.

4. A favorite book, movie, or song with an island setting or theme?

Well, in the original Hotel Transylvania, one of the main characters talked about Hawaii, only she kept pronouncing it wrong. This is a cute animated movie that Suzanne and I enjoy a good bit.

5. Yesterday-did you run your day or did it run you? How so?

I am writing this on Tuesday so yesterday would be Monday.  Our day started at 6 AM and did not end until about 3 AM Tuesday morning.  So, I would have to say the day ran us.  We got up and went to the hospital for my foot care.  Then we came home and took our daughter to work.  About the time we laid down for a nap, we got a phone call. We had to respond to a crisis.

Then, we had to take our oldest daughter back to school.  This year she lives up about 6 million flights of steps.  Both Suzanne and I are physically challenged, so this took a lot out of us.

It is somewhere near 100 miles from our house to her dorm.  Every restroom along the way was closed until we finally floated in to a truck stop.

6. You're on an island holiday. Will I most likely find you parked in a beach chair, shopping in town, on the back of a jet ski, or snorkeling off the back of a catamaran?

None of the above.  There is not one thing on that list that appeals to me.  When I was 14 years old, I nearly died at North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  The location had nothing to do with the illness but still, to this day, I HATE the beach.  I don’t want anything to do with one.

Now, our baby daughter lives on an island.  The Gulf of Mexico is literally at her back door. Her school takes up almost the whole island so, the entire campus is a beach. In order to visit her, we have to endure something that causes me no end of emotional hardship.  BUT, we love our baby child, and all of our children, more than anything else in the world.

Both my child-bride Suzanne and I would walk through hell with gasoline drawers if that is what it took to see our young ‘uns.

I don’t like the beach. I hate shopping. I almost killed myself skiing (snow) one time. I promised God that if He got me back down that mountain in one piece, I would never get back on a pair of skis again.  I did not specify snow skis, so water skis might be included in the package deal.  A jet ski might be too close to them as well.  I ain’t takin’ no chances on a technicality.  God doesn’t do technicalities.

7. What do you think we humans most take for granted?

Each other.  Tuesday 24 January 2017, would have been my father’s 82 birthday.  Well, it was his birthday, but he was not here with us to celebrate.  I talked to my aunt on the phone and she pointed out how our family is spread out and doesn’t communicate anymore.

We don’t think to tell the ones we love how much we love them as much as we should. Take time to tell those you love how much you love them.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

We still have a very long way to go on Suzanne’s GoFundMe fund.  Please pray and give if you can.  It is hard to watch someone you love slowly losing her sight.  Please, give what you can.  Some people have told us they would prefer to send donations via PayPal.  If you would like to do that, Suzanne will give you a PDF copy of one of her books of poems, free.

Please continue to pray for our family.

If you would like for me to pray for you, please drop me an e-mail by clicking prayer.

  2. I think there's some sort of law that says college aged kids must have six million steps. We've been there! I hope you find rest in your day today. Take care.

    1. This is why only young people should go to college. When I went, I lived on the 5th floor most of the time. The stairs were faster than Otis. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  3. Sounds like you have a lot going on right now. I hope it all works out for the best. All 3 of our kids went to uni and their accommodation always involved stairs!

    1. Her first year was on the first floor. There was one flight of stairs, but that was all. Now, there are many more. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  4. Good answers. Don't mess with our kids...I can be very defensive when someone tries to mess with my kids and grandkids. We lived on Key West when we were first married, and I am not fine with islands either....or the bridges we had to cross to get there.

    1. Thank you for stopping by am commenting. I have heard about Key West with what seems like endless bridges. I don't know that I would want to go there.
