Share Your World – February 27, 2017

Ever ran out of gas in your vehicle?

No. My father was notorious for driving a vehicle and parking it with no gas in it.  I had spoiled him.

It was my job to make sure all the company vehicles were gassed up and had their routine maintenance.

The gas station was about ½ mile from the store.  I often would get in one of the trucks and see it was below empty.  I would have to coast to Drennon’s Shell Station.

I was lucky and always made it.  I try never to let the car get below a quarter of a tank.  Suzanne does not feel comfortable allowing the car to get that low.

Which are better: black or green olives?

I am not a big olive fan.  I do eat green olives on occasion.  Suzanne is allergic to black olives, so we try to make sure none come into the house.  To me, this is no big deal because I don’t think they add much to a meal anyway.

If you were a great explorer, what would you explore?

After this past month, the only thing I want to explore is the inside of my eye lids.  Once I have had my rest, Suzanne and I would love to explore West Texas.

Quotes List: At least three of your favorite quotes?

This past month I was constantly reminded of a Marine saying. “The shortest way out is through.”  This kept me going.  I knew that on the other side of our adventure was our “normal” which is not really normal.

One that my mother once told me was one she heard from one of her friends.  It was so true this month.  “People are crazy, ’ceptin’ chickens and they got feathers.”

Probably the most well known and most often quoted verse in the Bible is John 3:16.  The following is from the King James Version.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”
Dr. Seuss

“It is neither wealth nor splendor, but tranquility and occupation which give happiness.”
Thomas Jefferson

Never fear the want of business. A man who qualifies himself well for his calling, never fails of employment.”
Thomas Jefferson

Never spend your money before you have it.”
Thomas Jefferson

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”
Dr. Seuss

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

This time, this is a very loaded question.  This past month, Suzanne and I have helped a friend.  We enjoyed working with his two adult children.  They both have very good heads on their shoulders and have what it takes to step up and handle all of their daddy’s business.

The turd in the punchbowl was our friend’s one and only employee.  This woman sabotaged equipment, hid equipment, lied on every occasion, and tried to discredit Suzanne and me.  This made no sense because we were not there to be her managers or her underlings.  We were there simply in an advisory capacity to help the business while our friend was out of town.

Our friend is a very hard man to work for.  In fact, ALL but three of his vendors have stopped supplying his business because he is so difficult to work for, but we love him and would do anything for him.

This employee feels she has job security because the man is so difficult to work for.  Had either of his two children felt like there was an alternative, they would have fired the woman.  She even told our friend’s daughter, an officer of the company, that she did not have time for her when the daughter found that the woman was seriously short in her accounts.

Would we help our friend again? In a heartbeat.  He is the kind of man who would give someone the shirt off his back if he thought they needed it.
Meanwhile, our area had six confirmed tornados on Valentine’s Day.  We did not suffer major damage, but our trashcan visited Kansas. They sent it back and our mailbox was blown down.

Towards the end of last month, our son started dropping hints of a romance.  Very shortly into this month he had his girlfriend, whom he has never met in person, contact Suzanne and immediately he started asking her what she thought of the girl.  They plan to get married on March 3.  We feel they are moving too fast.  I told him that if it is a good decision today, it will be a good decision in a few months.  Give it time.  Meet the girl in person and then date for a few months.

One red flag is that the girl’s social media posts indicate exactly opposite of how she presents herself in the email.  We wish he would slow down and proceed with caution.  We have nothing against this girl.  We don’t know her well enough to have anything for her or against her at this point.  We just wish they would take time to smell the roses.

This coming week, we are hoping to be able to decompress a little.  Who knows if that will happen?  Have a great week.
