Here are the fill-ins:

1. My idea of roughing it is fairly extreme.
Back in the day, my family loved to camp.  We were a scouting family.  My father was a boy scout troop leader and my mom was a girl scout troop leader. During the summers, you could find us loading up a trailer that was shaped like a dog house with tents, sleeping bags, Coleman stove, and other fun stuff.

When we bought McClendon Manor, it was a nightmare.  There was no running water and it had that old type of electricity with the wires exposed.  We had to rough it for months with hauling water and very little power.

Suzanne and I have had our housing experiences, too.  From no hot water to no air conditioning.  Having to wash clothes by hand for a long time.  We have come through a lot.

2. I never get sick of talking about anything.

I could talk the horns off a billy goat,  I can talk about just about anything.  It does not matter that I might not know what I am talking about.  It is difficult for me to keep a short story short.

I am getting better.  I try to keep the videos short and to the point.  Maybe I will get there some day.

3. My youth was a long time ago.

My youth was a long time ago and yet, sometimes I feel like I am still in it.  Yes, I see that many of my friends have passed away.  But, I still feel, and sometimes act, like I am in junior high school.

It is fun to tell stories from my youth, like reforming a drunk.

4. My “golden years” are a concern.

They do concern me.  But I have to put that all in God’s hands.  We have no nest egg to fall back on.  We don’t even make the month now.  Sometimes we sell a few books on Amazon and make a dollar or two.  And one day soon we will have enough YouTube ad play to get a pay out.

I hope and pray that Suzanne and I will live out our golden years together sitting side by side like we do now.  She has been enjoying watching the birds and squirrels and I enjoy sitting, reading, and talking to her while she does it.

By the way folks, let’s help each other out.  If you know you want to buy something from Amazon and you have seen it on a fellow blogger’s blog, why not go to their blog and follow the links?  It won’t cost you any more and they get a small commission.

Also, whenever you watch anyone’s YouTube channel, please turn off your adblocker and let the ads play.  These small commissions add up and the people who made the video will be happy you did.

Have a great weekend folks.  BTW, for those of you thinking about your finances in their golden years, and we all should, you may want to find great books like Master Your Cash Flow to help you learn where to put your investments.  Always consult a financial professional before investing.

If you would like for me to pray for you, please drop me an e-mail by clicking prayer.

  1. I bet it was a whole lot of fun camping with your daddy. Love you.

  2. I could relate to your answers for #1. One of the few wonderful things about my childhood was camping. The not-so-great times were similar to as you described. Bill and I have come a long way. We lived in a van for several months as newlyweds, totally going without everything! In our first home, pipes would freeze, leaving us without any running water. AC? We did not have that for the first 15 years! But, we made it. So have you! We learned what was important. God never gives more than you can handle. There are so many who have so much less, including those who are alone in the world. The glass is half full! Hugs!

  3. P.S. Do you live in McClendon Manor, now? Cool name for a home! It definitely sounds steeped in heritage.

    1. My brother inherited McClendon Manor. It is a long story, but he lost it. You can hear more about McClendon Manor here or read a little less about it on this blog here .

  4. I don't think I have the YouTube channel adblocker on, but I'll check to be sure. Didn't that info, so thanks.

    1. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. Many people don't think about the ads. Most people will just skip the ads. We appreciate those who let the ads play.

  5. Talking the horns off a billy goat is a great saying and one that I have never heard! I was a Brownie leader and we did a lot of camping when my kids were young. I rough it in a hotel now. LOL!

    1. That is a good ol' Southern saying. Sort of like "He could talk a hole in a brick wall." My favorite is "People is crazy, ceptn' chickens, and they got feathers." I use that when someone isn't listening to me. After a little while, it hits them and they stop to try to figure out what was said.

  6. My husband and I went through some "roughin' it" when we were much younger and first married. I have to admit, though, yours were rougher with no running water!
