Wednesday Hodgepodge 9 August 2017

1. Do you try to set rules for yourself about how you use your time? Explain.

Not really, I try to go with the flow.  I do try to set aside time to pray and read the scriptures.  I try to record videos when the dogs next door are not barking a lot.  Other than that, I just relax and let it happen.

2. Monday was National Lighthouse Day. Have you ever visited a lighthouse? If not, do you have any desire to see one up close? Of the 10 Most Beautiful that made this list which would you most like to see in person-

Lindau Lighthouse (Germany), Fanad Lighthouse (Ireland), Portland Head Light (Maine), Yaquina Bay Light (Oregon) The St. Augustine Light (Florida), Peggys Point Lighthouse (Canada), Start Point Lighthouse (England), Tower of Hercules (Spain), Bass Harbor Head Station (Maine), and White Shoal Light (Michigan)

To my knowledge I have never been to a lighthouse but have seen them in the distance.  I would love to go to Cape Hatteras in North Carolina.

When you've been away, what's your 'lighthouse' telling you you're on the right road home?

Home is where you hang your hat, so to speak.  I don’t think that Suzanne and I have really felt at home since we left South Carolina.  However, if we speak of the here and now, our lighthouse would be several things.  One would be Anwar’s store.   We pass it on the way into town from one direction.  Love’s Truck Stop would also be a lighthouse.  The Milam Street Donut Shop would be the lighthouse on final approach.

In days gone by, Granny Madden’s house was my lighthouse.  When I came in from Spartanburg going home, I would stop by Granny’s house.  She always tried to “Feed the Bird”.

3. What have you unintentionally stopped doing? Is this something you need to pick back up and begin again, or is it something you need to let go of for now (or even permanently)?

Suzanne and I used to play Doctor Pepper all the time.  This is our version of Crazy Eights. The tens, twos, and fours are wild.  I get out of the habit when we have more to do than we can get done.  We used to play it all the time.  Now, we are getting back into it, but we often miss a day or two.

4. We've had a full week of August. Share a GRAND moment from your month so far.

Our lives are pretty much Same-O Same-O.  We get up, work on blogs, eat, watch birds, sleep.  Nothing much happens here.  We do have Hammie back on line.   Suzanne did get to email with one of our favorite authors, Susan M. Boyer.  She is from back in Upstate South Carolina.  That was cool.

5. Tell us one song you love with the word 'baby' in the title.

The one that comes to mind first is Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On.  I used to sing that to Suzanne whenever she would wear blue jeans.  This got me some acid stares from her mother, my now mother-in-law.   Another one that comes to mind is Baby Come Back.

The next line where it says “I was wrong” is the most important part.  Anytime, and I mean everytime, Suzanne and I have had a disagreement, I was the one wrong.  I can’t think of a single time I was actually right in one of our disagreements.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

Big Brother Points the Way!
The Marine helicopter mishap that took place off the coast of Australia was our son’s group. The helicopter took off from his carrier and the service people on board were in his group.  Please pray for these families.  This was a routine flight that takes place hundreds of times per day.  These helicopters are designed for fast attack and rescue operations. They also resupply the ships while at sea.

  1. I try to go with the flow, as well. I, too, make it a point to read scriptures and pray every morning. It starts the day off in a positive way :)

Ed and I played Crazy Eights just the other day. First time in a long time. I've never heard of Dr. Pepper, but we'll have to try that, soon!

I love, love, love "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On". An oldie, but a goodie.

    Enjoy your day,
    Kathy (Reflections)

  3. That's so good that you incorporate prayer and reading the scripture each day. I admired my dad because he, too, made consistent time for prayer and scripture reading. There was nothing that got in his way of this important daily time. Sorry to hear about your son and the other men with the helicopter mishap. I looked up what happened on the internet. What a tragedy! Yes, I will definitely keep these families in my prayers.

  4. I like to play Crazy Eights, so will have to try the Dr. Pepper version. I will be praying for those impacted by the helicopter accident. I know something like that is especially difficult for the fellow servicemen and women.

    1. Thank you. He was in California at the time. It was not too long ago he had been on that carrier. We will keep the other families in our prayers. Have a great week.
