2017 September's Where I Come From Challenge Day 18

This challenge is based on Kenny Chesney's song "Back Where I Come From".

Suzanne over at PS-Annie! and McClendon villa has included home-and hometown-related questions to round out our 30 days of posts.
Come on and join in.  It will be a blast.
Today’s question is:

18.  Did you like your childhood home? What did you like or not like about it?

I loved McClendon Manor.  It was a wreck when we bought it.  My mother and father,
along with my sister and I, worked our butts off to fix it up.  We hauled water, scrubbed, painted, scraped, sanded, swept, you name it, to make it a show place.

My mother and my Uncle Carl made a great wallpaper team.  Between the two of them, they could wallpaper just about anything, and often did.  My father did not have the patience for such a thing.

The home had once belonged to one of the wealthiest businessmen in town.  Preston Brooks Gailey.

If you are not familiar with Preston Brooks, look him up.  He was a major influence in South Carolina history.
