2017 September's Where I Come From Challenge Day 29

This challenge is based on Kenny Chesney's song "Back Where I Come From".  Suzanne over at PS-Annie! and McClendon villa has included home-and hometown-related questions to round out our 30 days of posts.

Come on and join in.  It will be a blast.
Today’s question is:

29.    Does your hometown have a newspaper?  Does it come out daily, bi-weekly, weekly, or some other frequency? Does your hometown have its own radio station?

It does not, to the best of my knowledge, have a newspaper now.  When we first moved to Iva, we had the Iva Journal.  The county seat, Anderson, had several newspapers.  The Independent and Daily Mail were just finishing a long merger.

We had no radio station, but the county seat had several.  One was WANS AM/FM.  Later, Anderson got WRIX, which was owned by a friend of ours, Matt Phillips.

When we had the Lion’s House Children's Home, I was interviewed on WRIX.   Matt Phillips had died but the radio station continued.  During the course of the interview, the disc jockey said something about Britney Spears.   I said, “Oh yes, my daughters go to school with her.”  The disc jockey tried to block the comment, but it went out to the entire county.  I learned later that I was mistaken.  They did have a friend named Britney, but not that Britney.

Was I embarrassed about it?  No.  I thought it was funny.  When it comes to public speaking like that, I believe, “They can kill me but they can’t eat me, that’s illegal.”

    1. The engineer at the station thought it was funny, too. He was laughing too hard to catch it before it went out over the air. I thought it was funny, too. I figured that anyone who knows me knows I am a goofball. Anyone who doesn't know me, doesn't care. Have a blessed week.
