Wednesday Hodgepodge 4 October 2017

1.  Have you ever spent time on a farm? Tell us a little bit about it. Have you ever grown your own pumpkin? Been on a hayride? Driven a tractor? Milked a cow?

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia.  Our class, I am not sure which year it was, went to the Atlanta Dairy.  There we milked a cow named Rosebud and got a pin that said, “I milked Rosebud.”

My grandparents owned the Four Corners Ranch in Needville, Texas.  It was about 80 acres where they raised beef cows and grew corn and “maize”.  Maize is also known as sorghum and milo.

They bailed a lot of hay, too.  My father let me drive one of the tractors every so often.  It was loads of fun.

As far as hayrides are concerned, our scout troops used to go Christmas caroling and on a hayride at the same time.

Back in the early 90s, Suzanne and I lived right in the middle of one of the largest dairy farms in the state of South Carolina.

2. What's something younger you would like about you now?

I think if my present day me could go back to my college media arts me, he would be impressed about how I can now make slide shows, videos, and edit audio.  What used to take hours to get right can now be done in seconds.  My younger me would probably be impressed by the computer skills I have now.

3. What are three things you'd like to do more often? Three things you'd like to do less often?

I would like to sleep less often, that is just a waste of time.  Other than that, I’ve got nothing.

4. What's on your nachos?

Nothing spicy.  Lots of sharp cheddar cheese, lettuce, refried beans, ground beast, sour cream, guacamole, and tomatoes.

Just the other day we bought some Wholly Guacamole from Walmart.  We buy that brand all the time.  Well, this time it was mislabeled, very hot salsa. This was labeled as mild but you could smell the spices in the next room with the door closed.

5. What's the most random thing in your purse or wallet? Does it need to stay there?

I don’t really have anything random in there.  It is just my dl, debit and credit cards, and insurance card.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

Yesterday, 3 October 2017, was a triple anniversary for us. On 3 October 1974, Western Auto of Iva, our old family business, celebrated its grand opening.  It was a soft opening.  Our original marriage license said that Suzanne and I were married on 3 October 1984  We were really married on 03 November 1984.  The preacher, Suzanne’s Uncle Bobby, got the dates mixed up.  So, as far as the State of South Carolina was concerned, we were married a month longer. Also, it was the one year anniversary of the kick off of How To Manage Your Monkey.

How to Manage Your Monkey is my blog and vlog dedicated to life recipe. That is keeping our lives in order.  We focus on finances, but also on other family matters.

By the way, Hammie would like to invite everyone to visit him at his health and beauty store.

  1. Happy month-early anniversary, baby. I love you. :)

I think our older selves would have a blast going back to visit our younger selves, especially with all that we know now and can do with these computers and cell phones. We'd definitely take more pictures with and of our daddies and grandparents. We could also warn us off about some of the bad things ahead, maybe make fewer mistakes along the way.

  2. So do you celebrate your anniversary twice each year? : ) Hayrides used to be a regular fall activity with church youth groups, but I wonder if they still are. I don't hear about hayrides so much anymore. Hope you're doing well!

    1. We did not know of the wrong date until we ordered a copy of our marriage license and there it was. They still have Suzanne's age wrong.
