Here are the fill-ins:
1. My favorite Dr. Seuss book is Green Eggs and Ham.
We have always enjoyed reading to our kids. As most of you know, I am a ham. When I read Green Eggs and Ham to our kids, I would make noises like the train and really emphasize parts. By the time our youngest, Maggie, came along, I had most Dr. Seuss books memorized.
One day we were waiting for Maggie’s turn at the dentist. She wanted me to read Green Eggs and Ham to her. She loved to flip the pages while I read. Back and forth she would flip, but I would keep right on “reading” the story. When I got finished with an enthusiastic “Thank you, thank you Sam I am,” the whole staff was standing at the counter watching me recite the book. They clapped for me. I was not aware we were being watched. Anyway, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
2. The most interesting person I have ever met is a funeral director.
I actually know his name but I won’t use it here. One morning, I pulled up to our family’s store and there was a hearse sitting at the garage with a flat tire.
I walked up to the hearse and told the driver that it would be about an hour before the shop people got there, but he was welcome to come inside and get a cup of coffee.
The man had been waiting outside for a while, all alone with his demons. It seems that one day his wife, his daughter, and himself were attacked by his son. The son was strung out on drugs and intended to kill the family. This man killed his son.
That morning he had time to remember the incident. He cried on my shoulder, not literally, that morning. We never had met before and I have never seen him again.
3. Besides books by Dr. Seuss, my favourite book as a child was there are so many.
Suzy Squirrel come to mind. Gift Bear, Harry the Dirty Dog, all the Clifford Books. The Beverly Cleary books.
One that comes to mind was a short story in a collection we had when I was young. The story was No Daddy Yet. It is the story of a child listening to the sounds on the street and questioning each sound wondering, “Could this be daddy coming home?”
4. Lately, I have been working on trying to find a new normal.
Everyone who knows me knows that depression would never be used to describe me. In fact, usually I am the exact opposite of depressed. However, recent events within our family have really played a toll on me. It has caused my blood sugars to spike into the 500+ range,
We are hoping and praying we can find that “New Normal”. We know God is on His throne and He has this covered. My father would say, “Put on your riding britches and get in the saddle.”
We really have been out of the swing of things since early December.
Sorry to end on a downer. Have a great week.

Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, I enjoyed your answers except #4- I am sorry things have been so tough. I still have my Suzy Squirrel book, unfortunately, I scribbled in it. I liked Harry the Dirty Dog too. That is a fun story about your applause for reading :)
