The following is a guest post.  This post does not necessarily reflect the views of Suzanne and David E. McClendon, Sr. or Manian Debil Productions.

Our daughter Maggie has a new blog for her furbaby Martha. You can find it at: https://marthasdailymews.wordpress.com/

Here are the fill-ins:

1. Happiness is sometimes elusive.

Some people in the many self-help books I have read say that you CHOOSE to be happy or not. I think that might be true in some cases.  However, sometimes things happen that cause us to be unhappy regardless of what we choose.

No one chooses to get sick.  No one chooses to be poor. Few people choose to lose a job, although some do.

We can find happiness in the little thing in life and smell the roses.  However, if a big ol’ rattler is in that rose bush, it can strike and we don’t normally choose that.  Suzanne would choose to take its picture if it would sit still long enough.

2. Ten years ago, we were working in a convenience store about 16 to 18 hours per day.

We had a lot more energy then.  Now, it is all I can do to make it from my easy chair that Suzanne done bought for me all the way to the little red car we have.

3. Faith and love are the best medicines.

The love of a good woman is like a tonic.  Suzanne makes me feel much better no matter how bad I feel.  God can cure all. I recently read the book Healing: Faith and Medicine: A Medical Professional’s Memoir of Healing and Dealing with Illness by Mark Davis  ISBN: 978-1-5127-9936-1. In this book, we see how the only way Davis made it is because of his faith.

4. Most people don’t know that I am secretly an egotistical narcissist.

Suzanne and our oldest daughter are empaths.  They can sense when someone is not telling the truth.  They can sense when someone is hurting. They can also sense when someone is pregnant before they even know themselves.

Years ago, we went to a church that was chock full of young married women.  Suzanne would sense they were pregnant and tell them. She was always right.  It got to a point that these women would actually run when they saw Suzanne coming their way.

Me, on the other hand, I have no freakin’ idea what is going on half the time.  I read my books, make my videos, and sometimes notice that there are others around me.

Have you noticed that reading and understanding what you read is a lost art?  There are so many people that read something and then really mess up the message.  Often times, the results show exactly how stupid we have become as a society.

Once I wrote a sign for a friend who has a convenience store.  He was going to have to close the store early for a few days. One man read the sign and said, “So, y’all fixin’ to close down?”

Over the past years, we have had relatives who we thought at least could read.  They read posts and/or emails and completely misunderstood the message in the post.  These were simple words. In one case, the relative to this day continues to show how ignorant they are.  I am not saying they are stupid, just they did not read the original email close enough and now still make ignorant comments about it.

BTW, there is a special shout out in the last Hammie Show.  We think you should take a look.

  1. Maybe one day I'll get lucky and that snake will come as close as that little wren did the other day. And, MAYBE it will let me take its picture.

    1. And, maybe you will find one like that 6' 6" timber rattlesnake that guy found the other day. I love you, my Zing!

  2. Thank you for joining in on the Fill-Ins! Your #1 is so right. I really do believe that sometimes we can choose happiness by appreciating all that we do have. However, there are times when happiness simply is not going to come easily, because of circumstances out of our control. And your #3 is so true as well. Faith can do so much for us. Have a wonderful day!

  4. You don’t sound like an egotistical narcissist, you sound like someone who gets absorbed in his work. There is a big difference.

    1. I do get absorbed in my work. However, back when I was a senior in high school, Mac Davis' song, Oh Lord It's Hard To Be Humble" was my theme song. I sang it all the time. I am getting better, though.

  6. I used to work with someone that could do the pregnancy thing, and she always knew what sex the baby was as well - it was a little bit freaky at times.
Isn't it wonderful to be married to someone who makes us feel better.
    Have a great day.
