The following is a guest post.  This post does not necessarily reflect the views of Suzanne and David E. McClendon, Sr. or Manian Debil Productions.

Our daughter Maggie has a new blog for her furbaby Martha. You can find it at: https://marthasdailymews.wordpress.com/

Here are the fill-ins:

1. My favorite Disney character is Goofey.
I went snow skiing one time and I think I looked exactly like he does when
he skis.  I also look a lot like the Ol’ Goof when I roller skate. Once I took a quote of Goofy’s and altered it just a little.  When someone said that Goofy’s son, Max, was “little” Goofy said, “Little? Why he’s twice as tall as I was when I was half his size.”

Once, our oldest son Jared and I were standing together outside our church.  I am 6’ 3” and he is just a little over 5’. The difference in our heights made his stature stand out a little.  One woman at the church showed how rude, insensitive, and downright stupid she was by saying to him, “You’re short”.  I spoke up and said, “Short? Why he is twice as tall as I was when I was half his size.” She blinked her eyes and thought for about half a second and said, “Well, I guess you will be tall, too. “ Here’s your sign.

2. If I could stay any age for life, I would choose to be age 19.

In my never grew up mind, I am still about that age.  My brain says, “Go ahead, you can do it”. My body says, “You will feel that in the morning.”  There was a time when I could survive on very little sleep. I used to could sleep just about anywhere.  Once, while between rescue calls, I fell asleep on the security office gurney at the hospital. We were waiting to find out what we were going to do with our patient. Would they be treated and released? Would they be admitted?  My mentor and good friend, Booger, and a few others thought it would be funny to move me to some place else. I woke up in the morgue. It was a little creepy, but funny.

3. Goofy is my secret talent.

I like to pick up on things people have said and take it to a completely different meaning.  If someone were to say, “I don’t like my shoes”. I might say, “Just this morning, they were telling me how they don’t like you. You would think you guys could come up with an agreement to get along with each other but, NOOOO, y’all can’t work together.  Why don’t you guys just go your separate ways?” I usually get some pretty blank stares but, that is okay.

Back in junior high school, my sister would say the name of a popular student and then tell me how that particular person thought I was weird.  I would tell my sister that might hurt if I cared what that person thought. This really floored her because, at that age, many people think they live or die by what others think.  To me, what someone thinks about me does not change who or what I am. I am a goofball and it is unimportant what others think about it. What is important is what God and Suzanne think.

4. Life is like a  box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.

You know you were thinking that anyway.  I would be very surprised if at least half the answers don’t at least mention that quote.

Life is short, it is meant to be lived.  We cannot change what others think or do.  We can pray for them. We can witness to them, but that is all we can do.  Life would be so much better if people could and would still discipline other’s kids.  Once, when Suzanne was growing up, the now infamous Ma put Suzanne on restriction and she wasn’t even her blood relative.

There was a time when your friends’ parents could and would whip you and, I don’t mean just a slap on the behind, I mean sho nuff whoopin.  Maybe that was extreme, but we didn’t have the kind of back talk and bad behaviour back then as we do now.

Back then, if your parents found out you stole something, they would make you go to the person you stole it from and apologize. We had that happen at the store all the time.  Back then, if we caught a kid stealing, we would have them call their parents and tell them they needed to come pick them up at the store. No parent ever questioned what was going on.  Once, while a kid was waiting, it just so happened that the chief of police stopped in the store to check on one of the police cars that was at the store for repair. Well, one of the teams needed to eyeball the chief, so they stopped at the store, too.

The dad pulled in, there were five cops, and three cop cars there at the store.  He saw his son sitting in a chair by the door, not many feet from the cops. The kid was nervous, to say the least.  The dad was not a happy camper. Until the dad came in, the cops had no idea why the kid was there. I only wonder what happened to the kid when he got home.  If this happened today, the parent would be mad at the store, mad at the cops, and would feel sorry for the kid. It is a different world.

Have a great week, y’all.

  1. You know, it would be nice if Ma were still around to be able to put me on restriction again. I'd gladly go if it meant she were still here.

Goofy is a great one for you. :)

    I love you, my Zing.

  2. I'm also a fan of Goofy. I had the same answer for the 4th fill-in. Have a great weekend!

    1. It is such a famous quote that it just had to come to mind. We have never seen the movie but know the quote. Have a blessed week.

  3. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I see you are a Jeff Foxworthy fan too ( used to could, here's your sign). Times are different, you are correct about how differently that scene would be viewed now. Have a nice weekend!

  4. Thank you for joining in on the Friendly Fill-Ins! Your answers really made me smile. I hope you don't mind my laughing at your story about waking up in the morgue. That sure would be creepy, but that's a priceless memory. And I was hoping someone would go that route for #4! Your entire answer that one is very true, though. A little discipline can teach a kid a great deal about life. Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. Goofy is a great character, his original name was Dippy the Goof. It’s not easy to find old Disney books in which he is called by that name. He may be a bit goofy, but he is kindhearted and that’s what matters.

Kids who steal should get into huge trouble. If they were disciplined for the small things when they are young, they might not get into such trouble when they are older.

  6. Those were great, well-thought out answers. TW was miserable at 19 but loved her life at 30.
