Here are the fill-ins:

1. The last time I drove a car was a very long time ago.

I went blind back in 1995.  I really haven’t done much in the way of driving since.

In fact, Suzanne had to drive herself to the hospital when she was in labor with our youngest daughter.  She drove across town at 7 centimeters. She almost had the baby on the front lawn of one of our fellow church members.

2. Making ends meet isn’t as easy as it once was.

There was a point in time where electricity was an option.  Running water was an option. When we did not have all the luxuries we have now, it was not so expensive.  However, comparatively speaking, telephone communication is cheaper now than it was back when.

3. Sometimes being poor is a blessing in disguise.

In a way this is true.  It would be nice to have a little more money to make ends meet.  However, there are times when it is easier to tell someone I just don’t have the money.

We live in the city.  We have people come to our house all the time trying to sell us all manner of things.  One day a guy came by and wanted me to pay him to remove the ball moss from our trees. I know ball moss is not damaging to trees.  This guy wanted a few bucks to remove it. Rather than argue with him, I just told him, “I am on a fixed income, I can’t afford it.”

4. My favorite word is I can’t pin it down to just one.

I have a few phrases I say all the time like:
What had happened
Let me tell you
Basically
Where you gonna put it?

Check out a video of two of the new babies here at McClendon Villa.
I am very surprised that only three people have watched our cute kitty cat video.  It shows two of the kitties wrestling and a mama kitty? Breaking it up.

We have a new URL fromthekitchenofmcclendonvilla.com . It should be working fairly soon.  In the meantime, the new blog is available at https://fromthekitchenofmcclendonvilla.food.blog.  It is the same destination.

We have added our first cookbook review and should be uploading an easy biscuit recipe for next Tuesday.

The long awaited Choco Bombs recipe is available now.

Have a blessed week, y’all.

  1. That was definitely an exciting drive the morning we had Maggie. I think it is one thing that I will never forget. I'll forget my own name, but I'll remember that drive. haha
I love you, my Zing. :)

  2. Mama Kitty -- heeheehee! That is a very good one.

Grandpa was an obstetrician and we heard lots and lots of crazy stories, but never about someone driving herself while in labor. Wow.

    1. It was a wild ride. The church member did not know at the time how close we came to using her front yard as a birthing room. The dog thinks she is the mama to those kitties.

  3. Thank you for joining in on the Friendly Fill-Ins! It can be sad to think that our advancements have cost us a lot, literally. Having everything at our fingertips can be very handy, but it also removes a lot of money from our pockets. And your #4 made me laugh, because I know that I also say "let me tell you" on a very regular basis. Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Back when Suz and I worked at the convenience stores, we often asked, "Where you gonna put it." The owner wanted to set up displays of all kinds because he could get a check from the wholesaler to do so. We had no available space so we would ask him, "Where you gonna put it?"

  4. That was a cute video. How funny the dog acts like their mama. :) Thank you for participating in the fill-ins. I am glad you can see the silver lining in things like lack of funds. I didn't realize you haven't been able to drive in so long, poor Suzanne driving while in labor- yikes!Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Suzanne is a trooper. She waited until she was sure she was in labor, took a shower, and woke me up. She had already called her mama and sister to come watch the other kids. Have a blessed week.

  6. Great fill ins and every time our Female Human sees those beautiful baked goods on your blog she is sad that she cannot bake (but she is a good cook).

    1. Perhaps, if your female human follows along with the videos her baking would work. If not, she could always blame my editing. I could have left a vital step on the cutting room floor lol. Have a blessed week.
