Here are the fill-ins:

1. Better to be dead than red.

That answer was the first that popped into my mind when I saw it.  I grew up in the aftermath of the JFK assassination when LBJ was presidope and there were communist spies everywhere, including disguised as kindergarten students.  I also thought about safe than sorry. The really big one is that is is better to be right than it is to be popular.

2. Don’t pick on someone just because you are bigger.

I have always been bigger than most people.  When I was in school, I was always at the end of the line when we lined up by size.  When we played Red Rover on the playground, some twerps always headed towards the smaller people to try to break through the line.  My father always taught me, “Never pick on a little guy”. He also taught me to never run from a fight. If, however, a fight comes to you always take it. In Red Rover, I always headed towards the biggest people.  If you have to fight a group of people, always take on the biggest person first. Once you beat him, you won’t have to fight anyone else. This is almost always true, almost.

3. You couldn’t pay me to get on an airplane.

I am not afraid of flying.  I don’t want to go through the TSA.  I don’t want some dude putting his hands on me or Suzanne.  I don’t want some female, who is not Suzanne, to touch me, either.  I have nowhere I need to go that involves a plane anyway.

4. Bacon is my comfort food.

We don’t normally have bacon here at home.  However, when I have to go to the hospital, I wants me some bacon.  I figure that for all the other things I have to endure while I am there, I can have some bacon.

I think the cable companies and the satellite providers have finally maxed out on what they can charge.  Over the last several days, I have talked with my sister from another mother (actually, she is a really good friend of another race but she is closer to Suzanne and I than most of our family) and she has had her landline phone and cable disconnected because of the recent rate hike.  We talked with some other friends who have had their cable disconnected for the same reason.

More and more people are asking about the free options we use and some we don’t but might would if we cared anything about watching television.  We do have a Roku and know several people have opted to get one and watch the free channels on it.  We don’t have a SkyLink antenna, but have talked with people about it

Sooner or later the companies will realize that when you charge people to watch television and most of the time they are watching they are bombarded with commercials, they will find something else.

If you listen to broadcast radio, you sit through 20 minutes worth of commercials to hear 10 minutes of music in a half hour. If you watch cable or broadcast television, you see about 20 minutes of content in one hour.  They don’t even wait until the show ends before they shrink the picture and start rolling advertisements. Often the thing you want to see in the show is the last minute just before the credits roll and it is squeezed into a little sidebar while they play a commercial and override the sound.

It is usually repeats anyway.  Most people have turned to watching NetFlix and YouTube. We watch the occasional NetFlix on our Roku or watch a DVD.

  1. I'll take your #2 a step further: Don't pick onn *anybody*!

I definitely agree with your #3. I love you, my Zing. :)

  2. Thank you for joining in on the Friendly Fill-Ins! I am completely with you on #3. For me, though, it has to do with both TSA as well as a fear of flying. Have a happy, healthy, and blessed weekend!

  3. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I have no desire to fly either, mainly because I don't like to be away from cats and I am afraid they would make me buy a second seat. I have to ask my niece what she has, they pay $20 a month and get so many stations except for local. Our cable bills ( includes internet and land line) is around $250/month-crazy!

  4. Great answers. Oooohhhh...now I'm craving bacon :) Have a great weekend!

  5. Can you believe postage is going up to .55 this month. We're sending all our Christmas cards by email this year. More and more people are cutting the cord with cable lately. There are a million different options and you named some. We have an old boxy tv so we're stuck. Pop has never flown and TW gave up flying in the early 1990s.
