Friendly Fill-Ins - 2 September 2016
1. My favorite way to exercise is _Sit back and wait for the desire to exercise to pass. Actually, I keep a set of hand exercisers on my desk. I squeeze them from time to time. Sometimes I sit on the exercise bench and do a few sit-ups and maybe lift a few very light weights.
2. Something I learned last week was that common ordinary table salt is a good way to reduce fleas.
This summer has been terrible for insects of all kinds. It seems the hot weather has increased the flea population a great deal. The outside cats seem to bring them into the carport where they are waiting to hop on anything with a pulse.

By sprinkling ordinary salt on the carport floor, we can stop them from coming in the house.
3. I am sentimental about Old photographs and old songs.
I like to take out old pictures and scan them in the computer. It is nice to relive the days when these pictures were made.

4. Some people may find it surprising to know I collect dolls.
Anyone who watches my videos will get a glimpse of Kissy and some of the other dolls from time to time. When I was growing up, my sister had a huge doll collection. As it turned out, this collection was really more my mother’s than my sister's collection. Now, most of my mother’s house is dedicated to dolls. They are everywhere. We find our dolls in thrift stores, flea markets, and bazaars.

Well, that wraps it up for this week, folks. If you have not heard about it yet, my child-bride Suzanne is hosting a new meme called the September 19 Somethin’ Challenge. You may remember the song by the same name. Each day, Suzanne presents bloggers with a challenge question and asks the blogger to answer the question on their own blog site. Come and join us.

Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I am very surprised that you collect dolls, I thought it was Suzanne that did.I hate fleas! We had a massive outbreak of them Summer 2014, we had let Spooky inside and flea treated him. We didn't realize you need to treat for 3 months to kill them all because the eggs are not affected by the treatment. For several months they bred and bred and jumped on to all the cats and us. It cost over a thousand dollars to treat all 15 cats for 3 months and flea bomb.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I can't imagine having to treat 15 cats for fleas. It is bad enough just treating one small dog. We have outside cats and they have fleas, but the big culprit seems to be the weather. They were never this bad before. We vacuum and salt, use Capstar, she has a flea collar. We put lavender on her. We spray for the fleas and, when we think they are reducing in number, we find another explosion. We just keep treating.
DeleteOK, your first answer had me cracking up! Wait for the desire to exercise to pass... :) I've been thinking about getting some of those hand exercisers to make sure my hands stay flexible, especially since my mom has rheumatoid arthritis in both her hands and feet. Better safe than sorry, right?
ReplyDeleteSalt reduces fleas? I had no idea!
Oh yes! I'm absolutely sentimental about old photographs - hopefully my parents have hung on to some old ones. I love going through the ones from my late father-in-law and imagining what was going on in the photos. :)
You are a doll collector?! How cool is that?! I collect dolls, too - I used to have a huge Barbie collection, but ended up sacrificing a majority of the 400+ when we moved cross-country. I did make sure to keep the more sentimental ones, though, and the ones I'll use for my OOAK creations. I also have a small collection of composition dolls - I have plans to restore them once I get my SheShed done and craft-ready. ;)
Enjoyed all your answers! Have a great weekend! :)

I am a redneck. Therefore, I have been in those peeing contests men get in where they try to have a more firm handshake than the other. That being said, my doctor never should have told me to squeeze his hands as hard as I could after my strokes. He won't see me anymore. He won't even come in the room with me.
DeleteSalt causes the fleas to dehydrate and die, as I understand.
I don't have many dolls in my collection. I haven't paid more than $10 for any of them. I buy them at thrift stores and flea markets. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
My gramma gave me a doll every birthday and Christmas. I think it was more for her than me. She grew up in poverty and didn't have a doll.
ReplyDeleteThat is sad. Suzanne's Grandma never had a stuffed animal. We gave her one one Christmas.
DeleteGreat answers! Great answers for the questions. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend as well.
DeleteOld songs are great for taking a trip down memory lane. There a certain songs from my childhood that I can recall always playing in the background while the adults sat and talked or played cards. Bands like Fleetwood Mac or The Eagles that I might not have ever discovered. And hearing those songs now always takes me back to childhood and happy memories.
ReplyDeleteBoth are good groups. I remember being a teenager when they were popular.
DeleteInteresting answers. I know salt dehydrates things, such as fleas. The higher quality the salt, the better it works. Mixing it with Borax works even better. It is so hard to get rid of fleas. I definitely prevent them, each year. I have to! Thankfully, we have not had an issue in over 25 years. *whew*
ReplyDeleteOld photographs make me very nostalgic, as do old songs. As a poet, these speak to me.
Dolls. Yes, I am surprised about dolls. People either love or...fear (?) them. But, to each their own, I say.
I missed out on Suzanne's meme. I hope she does it again. I would love to join that!
Thanks for being a part of Friendly Fill-Ins!
