Here are the fill-ins:

1. I really need to get caught up on posting reviews.

I have many parts of reviews in various stages of being posted.  Some are just floating around in my head; they are lonely. Some are written, but not yet recorded.  Some reviews are written and recorded, but not yet edited together. Some are edited together, but not yet turned into a final video.  Some have all that done and are waiting for me to upload them to YouTube. Some are uploaded to Y’all Tube, but not yet posted on a blog.

And, I really need to do a better job of commenting on Friendly Fill-Ins posts.  This is the only meme I participate in now, so it should be easy enough to comment on everyone’s blog, one would think.

2. My favorite Christmas (or Hanukkah) decoration is our angel ornaments that are in honor of Dorian.

We try each year to get a new angel ornament for Dorian.  So far this year, we have not been anywhere to get one. Last year, I was in the hospital for Christmas, so we did not have a tree. We at least had the ornament.

3. It’s beginning to look a lot like a wet, cold winter.

We don’t normally get cold.  It is cold and very rainy right now.  We are in the sixties but it has gotten into the low thirties so far this year.  That might not be cold where you are, but when we have seen 118° F, and that was not unusual,  34° F seems very cold.

4. This time of year, I eat my fair share of I used to could say tangerines .

This year, there does not appear to be any citrus fruit at the stores.  When they do have some, it is a very limited selection.

The book I am reading now is Trump and the Jews.  It has been eye-opening, to say the least. Every president since Carter, except for Reagan, has been down on Israel.  Their idea of peace in the middle east is for Israel to give away land or kowtow to the other countries.

Reagan and Trump have both been friends to Israel.  Don’t the others realize that when Israel is right with God, it cannot be defeated?  Just look at the Six Day War, which I had heard of but knew little about.

What I did know, at least at the time I was reading about the Israeli Air Force a few years ago, is that The IAF has never been defeated. I would go on, but I don’t want to spoil a great book for you.

Merry Christmas, y’all.

Friendly Felines 23 November 2018

Sadly, we say good-bye to Martha/Charlie/Saracha. Yesterday, Thanksgiving 2018, Mr. Martha McClendon, A.K.A. Charlie, A.K.A Saracha, went to the other side of Rainbow Bridge.  Martha was probably the most well-behaved cat we have ever had.  The only problem we ever had with him was when something new came into his life, he would potty in  places other than the litter box.

Here are the fill-ins:

1. Black Friday is a pain in my...neck.

When my family had a Western Auto Store, we would open the store at 8 am (the usual time) on the day after Thanksgiving and you would think people had lost their freakin’ minds.  We would decorate the store for Christmas that day. We called “All Hands” on that Friday. This meant that the whole family, including “Granny-For-Short” some years, would be there.

People would come in that day and buy cases of batteries, toys, bikes, and even car parts.  The same stuff was sitting on the same shelves the previous Wednesday. We did not run any Black Friday sales.

Some years we tried to close for Thanksgiving.  When we did, people would come knocking at the door of our house wanting stupid stuff.  They would realize they wanted to change their oil that day. So, they would come to the house and Pappa would open for them.  Finally, he gave up. He just went ahead and opened that day.

2. A pet peeve of mine at this time of year is when the stores rush the season.

The Christmas selling season now starts around Memorial Day.  By the way, when you celebrate Memorial Day you are celebrating a holiday that was started by the then dying Confederate States of America.  It was called Decoration Day.

Go into just about any retail store and before Halloween you will see Christmas stuff.  If you go into the stores on Christmas Eve, you will see that Valentine’s stuff is already on display.  It would seem they would make more money if they would let each holiday be its own day.

Have lots of stuff for New Year’s Day.  When that day is over, put out stuff for Valentine’s Day.  Just after Valentine’ Day, put out Saint Patrick’s Day stuff.  By the way, it is not Saint Patty’s Day or Saint Paddy’s Day. That is a racial slur against us Irish.

Give each holiday its own time.  When it is over, move on to the next.  Don’t rush the season. And, if you want to take back Thanksgiving for all those poor souls who are forced to be away from their families because they have to work on Thanksgiving, stay out of the stores on Thanksgiving.

And my biggest peeve is when people replace Christ’s Holy Name with an X.  Don’t tell me it is a symbol for Christ. That is bull corn.

3. ‘Tis the season for Jesus.
Jesus is the reason for the season.  Use this time of year to reunite with family and friends.  Give to the Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army and/or other charities until it hurts. Do not give them your tithe.  The tithe goes to the store house. If you feel you cannot support your church for some reason, get a different church.

4. I never jumped on the shop on Thanksgiving bandwagon.

Plan ahead for Thanksgiving.  Start early and make you an extensive Thanksgiving shopping list. Check it over several times.  Look over all your recipes and make sure you have all the ingredients listed. Stay out of the stores.  If people stayed away, the stores would not be open. It is that simple. Each one of us can make a difference.

Merry Christmas, y’all.

Here are the fill-ins:

1. I can’t wait to have anything Suzanne cooks on Thanksgiving ( if not in the USA, substitute your next holiday).

This year it is just going to be Suzanne and myself at home for Thanksgiving.  We will have whatever she fixes. No matter what, it will be great.
2. I am thankful for my family-.

I only know what one of our children will be doing this year for Thanksgiving.  Suzanne and I are thankful for them. We are thankful for food on the table, a roof over our heads, and that we don’t live in Kansas City, Missouri.

As we understand it, city officials poured bleach over food so that homeless people could not eat it because the people providing the food did not have a food permit.

Kansas City, Missouri, once was a great place to hold conventions with the Hallmark Crown Plaza.  Shouldn’t all businesses that would be holding conventions there pull out?

3. When it comes to pie, that is a long story but, I don’t mind tellin’ it.

When I was growing up, every year my Granny-For-Short made all kinds of pies.  There would always be pecan pie. I could look at pecan pie and tell I would not like it.  So, I never ate one, until one day I was working at Kell-Co Grocery Store in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  The ONLY thing there was to eat in the store without having to open a can or cook it was those little 2 for $1 Lance pecan pies.  I was starving so I bought one. It was good.

I thought, “If these robot-made pecan pies are so good, how much better must Granny-For-Short’s be?

I also love me some egg custard pie, peach pie, apple pie, you name it.

4. A feast is not a feast without the one you love the most.

A feast should have turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, squash casserole, ham, cranberry sauce, macaroni pie, deviled eggs, rolls, and dessert.

We hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving. Stay out of the stores. Why reward big retail for taking away our holiday?

Have a blessed week, y’all.

Here are the fill-ins:

1. One can accomplish anything they set their mind to.

I know that can sound kinda hokey pokey, but it is true.
If you set your goal on a prize, you can do it.
You might get knocked down, but get back up and start all over again.

2. Given the choice of cats or dogs, I would pick bofe.

I used to think of cats as furry snakes.
I thought they were sneaky and always into stuff.
But, they have kind of grown on me.
Xerxes was not the one that changed my mind,
but he was a big part of it.
He was so much like a little human boy that really,
really wanted to write with a pen or pencil.
He tried so hard to hold one.
He was/is our Manian Debil and we named our production company after him,
Manian Debil Productions.

3. Suzanne makes me feel special.

I think everyone knew I would say that.

4. I never go a day without praying.

Prayer really does change things.
The day before Thanksgiving 1997, we had nothing and I mean really nothing
in the way of Thanksgiving stuff.
I sat at my desk and tried to come up with money somehow to buy
even just a turkey roll. There was no money there.
We had ham and bread for sandwiches and some Raman noodle soup.
We also had some oatmeal. We were not going to go hungry,
but we were not going to have any kind of Thanksgiving meal.

I didn’t close my eyes but I said a simple prayer, “God, Please!”.
That was all I said. As soon as I said it there was a knock at the back door.
It was Ken, a man from a church we used to attend when we lived right
across the road from the church.

Ken’s daughter was called out of town unexpectedly and she asked her father
to go by her house and throw out all the perishable items so she would not
come home to a house full of rotten vegetables.

Ken thought, “What a waste.  I should give this to someone.”
He thought of us and brought them by.

I prayed, “Thank You, God. Vegetables will make a nice Thanksgiving.”
But God wasn’t through yet.

Shortly the phone rang.  It was my adopted Granny.
She was the grandma of my best friend, Roger, from high school.
She said, “Bird (my nickname), they were giving away turkeys at
Doyle’s (her son and Roger’s father) work.  They had one extra.
Do you want it?” I thanked her and hung up. “Thanks, God!
Turkey, vegetables, this is gonna be a good Thanksgiving.”
But God wasn’t through yet.

I got sat back down at my desk and the phone rang again.
It was Mrs. Harris. She was the mother of one of my other
really good friends from high school.
She said, “Bird, I went shopping and I bought something for the kids.
Can I bring it by?” I told her yes and shortly they drove up in the yard.
It was not unusual for her to buy the kids a treat like
Little Debbie Cakes or those Freezy Pops that are liquid until you stick them
in the freezer and then you can eat them like a popsicle.

I thought, “Wow, turkey, vegetables, desert, thanks, God.”
But God wasn’t through yet.

When she pulled up in the driveway, she said she needed help bringing
stuff in.  I thought, “Must be one BIG box of Freezy Pops”.
Her car soon began to look like a clown car.
The more stuff that came out of it, the more there was.
As the kids were unloading the car, she explained what she bought
and why she bought it.  She had bought turkey, two hams,
enough hot dog stuff for several meals, powdered potatoes, real potatoes,
corn meal (“No mixes for a real Southern girl” she said.)

There was stuff for macaroni and cheese pie, mac and cheese,
green bean casserole, spaghetti, and much, much more.

Buy the time she was through, our cabinets,
which had been completely empty, were full to bursting.
The two refrigerators, which before only held one gallon of ice tea, were full.
There were boxes of food piled hip deep all over the kitchen and dining room
and our office floor had boxes, too.

I prayed, “God, we can’t hold much more.  Thank you.”
And God was through with that blessing.
He has blessed us very much since.

So remember, God can do anything He chooses to do.
Let go and let God.

If you are in need, as most of us are, take time to pray.
If you are in plenty, take this time to bless someone the way
Granny, Ken, and Mrs. Harris blessed us.
You will feel the blessing as well.

Have a blessed week, y’all.
