I love history and I love to read about business. This book is chock full of business history. Watson from I.B.M. started off at the National Cash Register Company. His idea for posting signs that said "Think" came from N.C.R.
I loved every word in this book.
Did you ever wonder where the word “Fire,” meaning to terminate one’s employee, came from? Well, company lore at National Cash Register has it that John Patterson, founder and then president of National Cash Register, decided he needed to terminate the employment of Thomas Watson, Sr. So, to make a point, he had Watson’s desk taken out of the building and placed on the front lawn of the company headquarters. About the time Watson pulled up for work, Patterson set Watson’s desk on fire. Kind of makes Donald Trump pale by comparison huh?
