Friendly Fill-Ins 12 August 2016
Here are this week's statements with the blanks:
1. My nickname is There were several when I was growing up.
My great grandfather called me Rusty. I don’t remember him.
In school, I was called “Bird”.
My mother did not name me after my father and his father before him because she did not want people to call me Junior. I was called Junior by most of our customers anyway. In fact, at the local restaurant, you could order three eggs scrambled, grits, toast, and bacon by saying “Junior Special.” That is what I ate and that is what they called it.

2. The first thing I ever won was I don’t know.
The earliest contest I ever remember winning was a Boy Scout shooting contest. I won a sheath knife. On that same day, I won the pistol shooting contest and was awarded a vittle kit. Shooting came natural then.
Our Marine can outshoot me and his Navy brother. He can hit a target the size of a quarter from over 500 yards away.

3. I have never been to anywhere off the continent of North America.
I went just across the border into Mexico once and the same is true with Canada. We went just far enough to say we went. I really have no desire to get on a plane to go anywhere. However, if someone were to take care of all the details like feeding the pets and paying for the trip with plenty of legroom along the way, I would be on a plane to Japan to see our Marine faster than you can imagine.

4. Next year we hope our Marine will be state-side.
He has been overseas way too long. We would love to see him get detached to the Marines on the Navy base in Corpus Christi. That way he would be within walking distance of our baby daughter. They could see one another all the time and we could go visit them at the same time. It isn’t likely, but God can work it all out.

Well, everyone, see you on the flip. Our daughter is home. That is wonderful. The heat is not so wonderful. The other day it was 111 with a wind children factory of 123. Hang 20, little friend.

It would be cool if we could all be in the same town again, even if it is on an island in hurricane territory.
ReplyDeleteI would like to be at the border one of these days for the Monarch migration. I think that it would be cool to see thousands of butterflies at once.
I love you, my Zing.
I love you too. If it has to be on an island, that is where it has to be. Butterflies are cool. Be careful with your camera though.
DeleteI hope your #4 works out for you. That would be wonderful, I'm sure. Have a great time with your daughter. The weather is hot here...mostly it's the humidity and it's going to be here all weekend. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting. We would love to have him close. No real hope for relief from our hot, dry spell. Where is winter?
DeleteThat's funny your parents didn't want you to be a "junior" - that was the same for my parents when my brother was born, so even though he got the exact same name as my dad, instead of a 'Jr.' afterwards, my dad did the II instead. ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you got some cool prizes with your Boy Scout wins! And how cool is it that your son can shoot so accurately? :)
My hubby isn't a fan of flying, so most of my international trips were before I met him. I'm hoping I'll convince him it'd be worth it to go to Europe. ;)
Here's hoping your Marine will be Stateside soon - and within walking distance? That would be the best ever! :)

It would be great if he could be on the base that is near his sister's school. There is a great bus system down there.
