Well, folks, today marks the end of the first week of the September 19 Somethin’ Challenge. Are you playing along?
Swing by McClendon Villa or PS Annie! and get the directions and then join the fun.
Today’s question is:
Did you ever get hurt trying to imitate someone else? What happened?
Nope, I never once got hurt trying to imitate someone else. When we were growing up, we played games where the purpose of the game was to hurt each other, but we were not trying to imitate anyone.
In our neighborhood, every sport was full contact. No matter what we called it, it was dangerous. We always turned whatever the game was supposed to be into a game that could be called "kill the guy with the ball". There were no rules. You just kill whoever has the ball. No goal line, no boundaries, no first downs, just kill, kill, kill.
We rode our bikes without helmets; we climbed trees and we dug holes. We had fun, but not trying to imitate anyone.
Everyone used to ride without helmets, no seatbelts in cars and we are still here :)
ReplyDeleteYou are right. There is no doubt that seat belts save lives. Unfortunately, the son of one of our friends was killed because he was wearing a seat belt. The driver that hit the Cit-Go ID sign at the station I wrote about was saved because he was not wearing a seat belt, according to one of the investigating officers. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
DeleteBaseball games were apparently full-contact sports in my neighborhood. I can still hear that bat crack over the boy's head. I hope his head doesn't still hurt. :)
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it, in your old neighborhood they still refer to a grand slam homerun as a Suzanne. They say that you have to hit the ball as hard as Suzanne smacks little boys in the head to get a good hit.
