Share Your World – 2016 Week 39

A class you wish you would have taken?

I wish I had taken more psychology.  It is a very interesting subject and it might have helped me immensely in other areas.

One subject that every junior high, high school, and college should offer and require is basic personal finance.  I went too long in my life without this knowledge.

What’s your favorite comic figure and why?

I am really not into comic books, like action/adventure per se. But as far as comic figures are concerned, I think Snoopy from Peanuts, Dilbert, and all the Pluggers.

I like Snoopy because he is super cool and laid back most of the time.   I like Dilbert because he deals with the ironic every day of his life, just like most of us.

I really enjoy the Pluggers, all of them, because their life is pretty much just like the way we spend our lives.  We cut coupons; we try to stretch every dollar, etc.

Name something you wish you could like.

I wish I could like getting older.  But, the older I get, the more these old bones hurt. When one is twenty-something, they don’t think about the aches and pains that their grandparents talk about.  Then, when it catches up with us, we realize what they meant.

Tell me about your first crush / first date / first kiss.

I guess my first crush and first kiss were with the same person.  That was so long ago.  I don’t remember having a crush before that and, I don’t know if you would call it a crush.

I was twelve; she was eleven.  Her father was working on renovating our house.  She and I met at church.  He would bring her over to the house while he worked.  Then, he would leave the two of us alone together for hours unsupervised.  The most passionate things got was I got bold enough to give her a peck on the cheek.

My first date was with a girl who I met at church, the same church where I met the first girl. We went to the band banquet and then the mall.  It was more like two acquaintances hanging out than a date.

Who was your best friend when you were 10?

I don’t remember a “best” friend from back then. There were the twins, Tim and Steve, who lived up the road from me.  And, I had a friend that lived beside them.  His name was John. I had a sort of friend, his name was Steve.  He was very often a brat.  He had a sister, Diane, or Diana, I can’t remember which.  She loved to tell on me.

What sign are you? Do you believe in astrology?

I am a Gemini.  I don’t believe in astrology but it is fun to compare what people say about the attributes of the signs and the true life attributes.

Only God knows the future.  Therefore, some piece of paper telling me what is going to happen, or not happen, is only amusing, not life-changing.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am thankful that we heard from our Marine.  We got to talk to him on the phone, but the reception was terrible.  It was like listening to Charlie Brown’s school teacher.  Add to that the signal cutting in and out.  But, still it is nice to know he is doing okay.  His ship made the news.  It is good to read about his ship.

I am thankful for another stroke-free week. I am thankful for my child-bride Suzanne and that she is here to take care of me.

I am looking forward to many more years with my child-bride.  I am looking forward to seeing our youngest daughter at Thanksgiving. I am also looking forward to our 200th video.  It should be coming up in about a month or so.  We are on number 186 now. I am looking forward to rolling out the How to Manage Your Monkey (or is it how to mangle your monkey?) course.  We will roll that out November 3 on our 32nd anniversary.

Please pray that God will use How to Manage Your Monkey to His glory.  Please pray for our service men and women.  Also, please pray that our youngest daughter finds the rented textbook, that just seemed to vanish into thin air, before the due date. She can’t afford to buy it, nor can we.

Please pray that the bank completes their fraud investigation on her account soon.  Her funds are locked up until they complete this.  In the mean time, she is having to get by with no money.

Well, that’s all, folks.  See you in the funny papers.

  1. I think the Pluggers comics are great. I like that we are a lot like them, too.

  2. Completely agree with a class on personal finance! I'm afraid I did quite a lot of money mangling before learning how to budget :)
Thank goodness you heard from your son!

    1. It would be great if all schools required a course in financial management. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  3. Nice to learn more about you, I am glad you heard from your Marine even though reception wasn't good. I have a B.A.degree in Pscychology/ Elementary Ed. and it is useless.

    1. Most of my friends got work in fields totally unrelated to their degrees. I studied media arts and went to work in consumer finance. I have a friend who has an MBA and is now a preacher. Your degree might not be as useless as you think. There might be some ways you can put it to work.

    2. I agree with David. It may not be as useless as you think.

You said your degree is in Psychology and Elementary Education. Have you ever thought about creating unit studies for teachers and for home-schoolers? It might be worth checking into doing this.

    3. Unit studies are a great idea. And, perhaps lesson plans that are not unit studies as well. And even writing textbooks for the elementary grades may be a way to go.
