Share Your World 20 March 2017

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

I never know how old I am.  I have family to remind me.  My mind thinks I am still 19.  My body says, “Oh no you ain’t”.

I often think I can still do what I did many years ago.  The next day I remember that I can’t.  Moving a car full of furniture into a dorm is something I used to do all the time.  Now, one trip and I am whooped.

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house?

I stopped carrying umbrellas years ago.  Around here the wind blows too strong for one.  I would end up in Kansas, along with our trashcan.  If I had one, I would never be able to find it when I needed it.

I found that I got just as wet getting out of the car with an umbrella as I would if I just got out of the car and ran to the building. What’s a little water?  This is the Gulf Coast, no matter what one does, they are going to get wet.

Do you recharge your energy by going out with friends for a good time or by spending quiet time alone?

I have never been a go out with friends kind of guy.  Back when I was in high school, a few of us guys would go out to the movies or out to eat.  But, since high school I prefer to sit at home with Suzanne.
To paraphrase the song All the Fun by Paul Overstreet - All the fun that I am ever gonna need, I have right here at home with me.

Name three things you and your spouse, partner, or best friend have in common.
Suzanne is all of the above to me.  She is my spouse, partner, and best friend. We are both devoutly Christian.  We both like to blog. And, we both love me.  Just kidding.  We both like it to be quiet here at home.  We prefer it when others aren’t out there making lots of noise, smoking, drinking, and causing commotions.

We both love our kids and would love to see them more. We both love to read and read all the time.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I am extremely grateful to be alive to write this.  Saturday it did not look like I would be here.  If it were not for Suzanne, I would have died.  Her quick thinking saved me.

I laid down because I was very sleepy.  After a while, she said I should check my blood sugar.  I did and it was in the 40s.  She fed me candy. About a half hour later, she checked it and I had dropped to 39.  She got me more candy. The blood sugar should have been going up, but it was going down instead.
She checked it again and called the ambulance.

The paramedic monitored by blood sugar all the way to the hospital, which is over 30 miles away.  He told me that it was starting to go back up. Suzanne came behind us in our car.

Our town only has three ambulances. The ambulance I was in was the second out unit.  In other words, there was only one ambulance left to cover our town of about 9,000 people and the surrounding area.  The third ambulance was dispatched.

Since my glucose had risen to a safe level, the ambulance I was in had gone code 1.  No lights, no siren.  The paramedic told the driver to speed up so they could get back and help cover the area.
Had Suzanne been directly behind us, she probably would have freaked.  All of a sudden, the ambulance I was in went up to code 2.  Lights, no siren.  They sped up. Suzanne was too far behind to see that.  That was good.

Next week, we are hoping for a much more peaceful week.

  1. I tend to get low blood sugar from time to time. It does take awhile to reverse it. I've had down to 42....so I know what it feels like. glad you are okay now.
