Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)?
My mother wanted her sons to have Bible names. She named me David and my brother Daniel. My brother got my father’s middle name, Bruce. My middle name is Eric. My mother said that sounded like a strong name. Odd, she named her weaker, sickly child with a strong name.
By the time my brother was 12 and I was 17, he could beat me up.
Music or silence while working?
A little bit of both.
If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be?
If I had a special place, it would probably be a fireproof archival box. In it I would place our wedding album and my grandparents’ Bibles. It means a lot being able to hold my Granny For Short’s Bible and see the passages she marked as special to her.
The Never List: What are things you know you never will do?
Wow, I learned a long time ago to never say never. However, I do have a promise I made to God one day back when I was younger.
I went skiing for my first (and last) time years ago. If you have ever seen Goofy skiing, that is what it looked like. In fact, if you have ever seen Goofy roller skating, that gives you a pretty good idea of what I look like skating, too.
I was on the baby slope. It wasn’t even the beginner’s slope. This was a hill that wasn’t tall at all. Well, I started down the hill and was more of a snowball than a skier. After many falls, I prayed and promised God that if He would get me down that hill in one piece, I would never get on a pair of skis again. He kept His end of the bargain and so have I.
Back before we were married I would see kids at the mall on a leash. I would say, “I would never do that to my child.” Well, our first son, Jared, changed all of that. He was so hyperactive that a doctor at the Montgomery Clinic (a world-famous ADHD clinic) had to rewrite his dissertation after he met Jared.
This kid could be off like a shot. Our neighbors miniature Chihuahua reminds me of him when the neighbors are trying to catch him.
Also, pre-kids I would see kids come into our store wearing just a diaper and be filthy. I would say, “I would never let a child of mine go out in public with just a diaper on. I would never let one of my kids go around filthy like that.”
Well, like Barney Fife with his fictitious future child, you learn a lot of things when you actually become a parent.
By the time our youngest Princess came along, we were happy if she had at least a diaper on. We were even happier if we could keep her clean and peanut butter-free.
Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
This past week was an uneventful week, Praise the Lord! No ambulance rides. No hospital admissions.
Yesterday we recorded a brief interview with our neighbor Little Bit. She is a sweet girl who has been sold a bill of goods where people have told her she could not (sing, etc.). Please take a look at the video embedded below and make a positive comment on the YouTube channel if you would. We would love to encourage this talented little girl. She is very talented and sings like a bird. She will get to see the comments.
This Thursday, we have the initial consultation for Suzanne’s cataract surgery. We are not sure when or if it will take place just yet. Please keep her in your prayers.
Remember the Swan Princess Royally Undercover will be available in stores tomorrow.
If you would like for me to pray for you, please drop me an e-mail by clicking prayer.

I think that it is great that you have your grandparents' Bibles. What a treasure. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that you made Little Bit very happy yesterday. She's going places, that one!
Love you, my Zing. :)
It is great having their Bibles. Little Bit has a lot of talent. I just wish people could see her and hear her sing. She is talented. I love you. Zing! Zing!
DeleteThanks so much for sharing this week. :D
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome.
DeleteWe tried one of those leashes on my niece when she was little, but she pulled it right off :)
ReplyDeleteWe had no problem. We bought the leash and made a few modifications. Jared, the sailor, was pretty crafty. We would put him in his crib and he would beat us back to the den. And he took the long way around.
