11.     What is one area of your life where you're a perfectionist? Is that a good
thing?

I gave up striving for perfection long ago.  There is no such thing as perfect.  I have seen quilts that were allegedly sewn by a professional that had obvious flaws.  And yet, the sold for thousands of dollars.

I have seen books that have alledgedly gone through several proofreaders and software, that had major flaws.  I don’t strive for perfection.  I just do the best I can and then I move on.

2. What's something you find perfectly ridiculous?

Screen addictions.  I find it ridiculous that people freak out when they go into a convenience store and don’t see a television that is turned on.  Seriously, the whole concept is that you can shop and be back in your car in less than five minutes.  Why do you have to see a television during that time.  Once, we turned on Thomas the Tank Engine at one of the stores and NOT ONE PERSON complained.  But when the television was off, that was all many people could talk about.

3. What's a skill you've developed by way of that old-fashioned saying, 'practice makes perfect?

This will sound odd but retail.  There is a skill involved with being the one and only clerk on duty.  Many people use the clerk in a mom and pop store very much like the stereotypical bartender.  People tell their troubles to the clerk They want a fast, accurate checkout and a little entertainment, too.

4. What's your idea of a perfect breakfast?

Six eggs scrambled, grits, about two pounds of link sausage, and coffee.  Add a few taters O’Clendona and it is perfect.

5. What's a trip, holiday, vacation, or day outing you've taken that you'd rate a perfect 10? Tell us why.

A trip to Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina. Suzanne and I were on our honeymoon.  That moves it up to at least a 15.  But the estate in the fall of the year AND decorated for Christmas was wonderful.  We toured the winery.  We ate at the Deer Park Restaurant on the estate.  The food was okay but there wasn’t much of it.  Have you ever noticed that the more expensive a meal is, the less food you actually get?  After the estate we went to McDonalds because we were still hungry.

6. What quote or saying perfectly sums up your life right now? If you can't do perfect, how about one that comes close?

The quote that ran through my head during the month of February was “The shortest way out is through.:  That is a Marine Corps saying.  We were helping a friend with his business.  His two children were running the business but they needed a little help.  Our friend has one employee and she is the employee from hell.  During this time our area was hit with six tornadoes.  Our son announced he was getting married and every electronic device in the business went haywire.  There as a day we went back to pencil and paper. The kids did not think it was possible. We did it.

7. How would you spend $300 today?

There are so many deffered purchases in our life.  I would buy Suzanne some new clothes.  She hasn’t had any in several years.  Other than that, I can’t think of anything I need.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Our brains are still fried from February.  Sleep doens’t want to come when we have time for is. Our desk is overflowing with books that people want to have reviewed.  Requests come in daily.  We get the reviews out as quick as we can.  We review print books as quick as we can.  Those that come in via ebook get added to the over 52,000 books we have in the que.  And, I have to get back to writing How To Manage Your Monkey.  I have posts scheduled for it until April.

Last year we bought tomato plants on April 1st.  The plants grew but never produced one single tomato.  This year we bought plants that already had tomatoes on them.  Will they make it?

Have a great week.

  1. I enjoyed reading your answers! Your thought on #1 is so true -- I've also seen major errors or grammar mistakes in books. I think I read somewhere that certain craftsmen -- possibly the Amish, or maybe it was the Shakers -- would deliberately leave a small imperfection in their work to point to the fact that only God is perfect.

    1. I like the idea of leaving errors in on purpose. That way I can always say, "I meant to do that." Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Grits can make a good breakfast just by themselves. Biltmore is a great place anytime, but especially in the fall.

  3. Oh, my goodness, 52K books in the que?? Wowzers! You and your wife seem to think alike; she also fondly recalls your honeymoon, and she would like to spend $300 on you. Hopefully March will be a calmer month for you than February was. Have a great day!

  5. I hope your tomato plants produce a lot of tomatoes for you and your wife this year. There's nothing like a fresh tomato that you grew yourself! The Biltmore Estate sounds like a beautiful place to visit. Hope you have a nice week!

    1. I am convinced that when we get to Heaven there will be a table set up just inside the gate loaded with tomato sandwiches. They will be made with fresh, homegrown tomatoes and will have Duke's Mayonnaise on them. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. It is strange but most don't care what is on television, they just want it to be on. We played Thomas the Tank Engine and did not get one single complaint. Even kiddie television satisfied their need for noise and lights. I forgot the five pounds of bacon. Have a great weekend.
