September Challenge Back Where I Come From

This meme is called 2017 September's Where I Come From Challenge
This challenge is based on Kenny Chesney's song "Back Where I Come From".  Suzanne over at PS-Annie! and McClendon villa has  included  home-and hometown-related questions to round out our 30 days of posts.
Come on and join in.  It will be a blast.
Today’s question is:
1. Were you raised in the town in which you were born? Where were you raised?

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia.  When I was 8, we moved to Inman, South Carolina. When I was 12, we moved to Iva, South Carolina.  Iva is what I consider to be my home town.  So, no, I was not born in my home town.
But, I got there as fast as I could.

When we first got to Iva, South Carolina, it was a very small town.  It did not have very much in the way of stores.  We had a drug store, the Iva Drug Company, that was run by a family that had been in the business for many years.  We had a dime store that was called a variety store.  It was still run the old fashioned way.  When you went in you had to ask for what you wanted.  You would never be able to find the stuff yourself.  They almost always had what you were looking for.

Behind the dime store was the local feed and seed.  This place was owned and operated by a man named Walt. Just like with the dime store, they had everything you needed but, you had to ask for it.  Walt could tell you how to do just about anything you needed to do.  The feed and seed was also the local hardware store.  His motto was, “If we don’t have it, you don’t need it.”

We had a couple of restaurants.  One was just getting started, Dud’s Burger Shake.  Dud’s Burger Shake was the inspiration for the Burger Dude in our Hamburger MInimum Wage video.

All of these people were not just merchants, they were friends.

    1. Two days after we moved there in 1974, two brothers were upset with one another. One of them pulled his truck across the main street. The other brother pulled his truck across the other end. They started shooting at each other with rifles. Just two good old boys.
