1. What pets did you have while growing up? Tell us a little something about them.
We almost always had a dog. Our dog Smut gave birth to 15 puppies during a very cold spell. Some appeared to be frozen solid. My mom brought them in the house and laid them around one of those old floor vent heaters to warm them up. Most of them made it.
Out of that litter there was one super dog. He chose me. I named him Stocking because he had white feet. For some reason, his name changed to Blackie.
Blackie and I went everywhere together. He was the kind of dog that would walk through hell with a gasoline collar if he thought I needed him.
Utility workers would come in the yard and ask if he would bite. I would tell them as long as they did not come near me, they were safe.
Blackie and I used to sleep out in my tent on summer nights. Just me and him. He was a good listener. He lived about five years before he got cancer.
2. What is one thing you absolutely must accomplish today?
We have a few major projects brought on by the flood. We are working on putting up a new mailbox. I know this sounds like a simple DIY project. However, the water table here is so high that if you put a pole up, it flops over in no time unless you do some serious mounting.
We live in the city where we have lots of underground utilities. I had to get them to come out and mark the lines . Texas is not big on regulations but, it really would be a big deal if I hit the natural gas pipe.
That is on the agenda today.
3. Where were you ten years ago? What were you doing there?
Ten years ago I was sitting pretty much where I am right now. The chair may be different, but everything else is pretty much the same.
4. September 26th is National Dumpling Day. Did you celebrate? Apple dumpling, xiao long bao (steamed Chinese dumpling), chicken and dumplings, pirogi, matzoh balls, or gnocchi...which dumpling on this list would be your dumpling of choice? Have you ever made homemade dumplings of any kind?
I don’t know if I have ever eaten a dumpling or not.
5. 'There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find an adventure and those who go secretly hoping they don't.' William Trogdon
So which kind are you?
Back when I was younger, I probably prefered a great deal of adventure. I worked with two different rescue squads and a volunteer fire department at the same time. I was a hospital volunteer, which was unusual for a boy at the time. And I was a first aid and CPR instructor. There was always something going on.
While in college I was a guard for the Carolina Gamecock football team. I guarded Governor Dick Riley, James Brown, Rick James, and Cocky. For the Clemson-Carolina game, Cocky got an armed guard and police detail.
Now, I would be happy to just sit back, read, watch the birds with Suz, and have our lives be the same thing every day.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Life around here is slowly getting back to a new normal. Some things are still wet. Some roads will be impassable for a long time.
On the plus side, our good friend Al Zdenek, Jr., who is a best selling author, has been approached by Forbes to relaunch his best selling book, Master Your Cash Flow. He will be making this book into a series of financial management books. We are proud of Al.
Our daughters’ friend, Cameron Sean Lasoya, has a shot at being on American Idol. Please visit his social media and vote for him. Thanks.

I think it is interesting that things are pretty much the same to/for you after 10 years. Things seem so very different to me.
ReplyDeleteI love you, my Zing. :)
For me it is like, Same stuff, different day. I love you, too, my Zing!
DeleteSuch a talented young man. Hope he makes it. I got a big kick out of your wife's comment!
ReplyDeleteThanks, we hope he makes it, too. It seems that the more things change, the more they remain the same. Have a blessed week.
DeleteI think dogs are even more loyal than some people. You are so right that they will go through a fire if you need them.
ReplyDeleteMost dogs are like people. Laynie's little dog is very different from most dogs. She whines for some of what I am eating, then when I give it to her, she doesn't eat it.
DeleteHope your got some of your project done today. I'm glad to hear that some things are getting back to normal.
ReplyDeleteI would have gotten a little done on it today, but I waited until the feeling passed.
DeleteSorry you are still suffering the effects of the hurricane.
ReplyDeleteWe will get through this. Right now, we are probably one of the few families that has three mailboxes in our yard. We have the one that blew down propped up in concrete blocks. We have the one on the porch that the mail man doesn't use anymore. We have the new one sitting on a table in our breezeway waiting on us to get more of the hole dug. Have a blessed day.
