Press Release: How do real Texans celebrate Christmas?

The following is a press release.  This post does not necessarily reflect the views of Suzanne and David E. McClendon, Sr. or Manian Debil Productions.

~ Located in the official “Christmas Capital of Texas”, Gaylord Texan visitors will enjoy a 125-acre winter wonderland featuring millions of lights, thousands of ornaments, lavish d├ęcor, a hand-carved ICE! sculpture attraction, a giant 12-lane snow tubing hill, an outdoor ice skating rink, gingerbread decorating, and much more! ~

GRAPEVINE, Texas (October 26, 2017) – It’s never too early for a little Christmas magic at Gaylord Texan Resort, where preparation for the 14th annual Lone Star Christmas event is in full swing! Beginning November 10, 2017 – January 1, 2018, Gaylord Texan will offer a variety of holiday activities, live entertainment, and grand displays to celebrate the season and delight Christmas lovers of all ages.

Experience Lone Star Christmas – Presented by FUJIFILM INSTAX®

This year, visitors will be in awe as they journey through a delightful winter wonderland featuring:

  • 2 million holiday lights decorating the resort’s indoor atriums
  • 2 million pounds of hand-carved ice for ICE! featuring ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
  • 2 million pounds of real Texas snow for a two-story tall, 12-lane snow tubing hill
  • A 6,000-square-foot outdoor ice skating rink
  • A 54-foot-tall Christmas tree adorning the center atrium
  • Magical miniature train sets throughout the property
  • 25-foot-tall Nutcrackers overlooking joyful families
  • 2,300 decorated wreaths, 5,600 feet of garland, and 15,000 festive ornaments

ICE! featuring ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas – Presented by Pepsi and Lexus

In mid-October, 40 remarkably talented master ice artisans from Harbin, China, will travel halfway around the world to Grapevine to carve 2 MILLION POUNDS of ice into magical holiday scenes, brilliant characters, an “On the Blocks” ice bar (21 & up), and five ice slides – all taking visitors on a breathtaking journey through the classic holiday poem, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Visitors will feel as though they have been transported to the North Pole as they walk through the 14,000-square-foot attraction kept at a wintry 9 degrees. To keep them warm, the resort will provide free parkas for adults and kids.

The ice for ICE! is created using a special "recipe" (yes, this ice has a recipe!), and it arrives in approximately 36 truckloads over a 3-week period... 2 trucks a day for 15 days, which is about as fast as Gaylord Texan’s local ice factory can produce it. Large blocks of ice are delivered on pallets via refrigerated tractor-trailers, then moved into place by forklift.

Three types of ice are used in the making of the ICE! attraction. Clear ice is used to look like crystal or diamond, white ice is used to look like snow, and a rainbow of colored ice (9 in total) is used for highlighting and accenting many of the sculptures.

As guests experience the magic of ICE!, presented by Pepsi and Lexus, they will see Ma in her kerchief, Pa in his cap and more as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas comes to life. They will take a thrilling ride down two-story-tall ice slides, travel through the North Pole and sit in Santa’s sleigh; and conclude with the awe-inspiring Nativity in stunning, crystal clear ice.
