Before we get started, I would like to send up a prayer for Ellen, one of our hosts here at the Friendly Fill-Ins.  She recently lost her Tallulah. May the Good Lord bless and keep you and David close during this time.

Here are the fill-ins:

1. I get to participate in the Friendly Fill-Ins  every week.

It is always a highlight to my week.  This is the only one that I participate in. The rest of the week I read my little books, write my little reviews, and sit myself in front of the camera and record the videos.  Thank you both for hosting them.

2. So far, 2019 is same-o same-o.

I have seen this written as same old, same old.  Back where I come from, it is same-o same-o. We say a lot of things differently than most other places.  We pronounce the word pecan like Pea Can. Others pronounce it like Puh Khan. Just so you know, God talks like we do.  When you get to the pearly gates, Saint Peter will say, “Come on in y’all. D-jeet? You will say, “Naw”. He will then say, “ja ownt to?  Pull up a cheer and grab yousef some mater samiches made with that good ol’ Duke’s Mayonnaise.”

3. I will never tire of reading.

When I was four or early five, my mother, Nana, decided she could teach me how to read. The trouble is, she did not explain what she wanted me to do.  She got a Sally, Dick, and Jane book (Chicken Jane) and made some flash cards. She would hold up a flashcard and ask me what that word was. She did not tell me about the alphabet or that letters each made different sounds.

When I got started in Kindergarten, I was able to grasp the general idea of reading.  Today, I read pretty much all the time. Suzanne does all the work and I just sit on my... er... tail and read.  I also try to stay off of my foot.

4. Can you believe that the hole in my foot has FINALLY closed up?

Praise the Lord and pass the chicken (you know I am Southern Baptist, so there is always fried chicken).  We have been here before, so we are being very careful with my foot. The funny thing is, I had lost my insurance and could not go to the wound care clinic.

My favorite nurse, Suzanne, decided to treat it herself.  Actually, she was already doing the work of a home health nurse on my foot. (Note from Suz: David is a naughty patient!)  We decided that since I could not get any antibiotics without insurance, we went the natural way with garlic as an antibiotic.  She treated the dry skin with olive oil. Praise God, it is now closed up. We won’t say healed just yet so we won’t jinx it.

Yesterday, I was walking through the dining room and heard a noise that sounded like a box being played with.  I looked over by the XercMaster (This is a cat perch/scratching post that I made for Xerxes) and saw Tiglet leaning on a box.  I thought to myself, “He sure made a lot of noise with that cardboard box”. He was sitting there with his front paws on the box lid holding both side flaps closed.

I heard what sounded like him scratching at the box, but I did not see him moving at all.  I asked him, “What are you up to, Big Buddy?” About that time, his sister popped her head up out of the box and looked around.  He had closed her up in the box and was holding the lid closed. Silly cat!

Have a blessed week, Y’all.

  1. Thank you for participating in the Friendly Fill-Ins! I am so glad you enjoy them each week, as I myself never tire of reading your answers. Your comments on the way God talks had me laughing. I really do hope they serve Duke's Mayonnaise up there in heaven, too. And I completely agree about reading. There's nothing like a good book to help you pass time. Have a happy, healthy, and blessed day!

    1. Thank you. Your comment reminded me of the conversation Suzanne and I had earlier today. We grew up with some people around us who could not read. This was sad. Many of them tried to play it off as having left their glasses at home. Others just fessed up and said, "I can't read". We had people come to the Western Auto store and ask us to read their mail for them. They would sign with their mark. There but by the Grace of God go I. Have a blessed week
