I often say, “If I had known then what I know now…” If I could turn back time, I would not have said or done the stupid things I have done (well most of them, anyway). I still may have played music with a Smurf glass on my knee. If I had not done that, I would not have the knee problems I am having now.
Soon after Suzanne and I were married, we had some of those glasses with Smurfs on them that we had gotten at one of those fast food restaurants, I don’t remember which one, but it had to be McDonald’s, Burger King, or Hardee’s because that is all we had in our town back then.
I was sitting in our living room and I bumped an empty glass on my knee and it made a musical sound. I decided to play songs on my knee. Suzanne said, “You might hurt yourself doing that”. I told her I could just barely feel it.
The next day my knee was swollen so big that it was bigger than my big ol’ head. I could not put any weight on it. This was a Sunday, so I could not go to the doctor.
Through the years, I have had many flare ups of this knee. Once I had to go to the emergency room. The doctor tapped my knee to drain fluid off. The only thing that I have had done to me that hurt worse than having fluid drained off my knee was when he tapped it and there was no fluid.
We have so many books that are sent here to review that sometimes I just need to have a little brain candy. The only comics I have found that don’t have some sort of garbage to them appear to be Broom Hilda, Ziggy, and Peanuts. By garbage, I mean some sort of political message that the cartoonist wants to promote, or there are scantily clad characters, or nasty pop up ads. I use ad blocking software.
Peanuts does have a message. Charles Shultz delivered the Gospel to his readers through Linus. He also taught us about baseball history through Charlie Brown. Schroeder teaches us about Beethoven and other art history. Lucy is my sister. I think my mother was frightened by a picture of Lucy when she was pregnant with Sandra. Sandra is almost exactly like Lucy.
3. A new skill I want to learn is Tai Chi.
I have read countless times about the physical and mental benefits of Tai Chi. Supposedly it is great for counteracting Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer's, and the complications of diabetes. I just haven’t found any good videos or books regarding the basic instruction of it. Well, I really have not looked for it all that well either. I keep saying I will, then, I don’t.
Seriously, I need to stop interrupting people when they are talking. It is so bad that a recent video I made with Hammie, I interrupted myself. It is funny that you can actually hear on the video that I am talking and Hammie interrupts me. I guess that would come in as a skill.
When I pick up Hammie, I have no idea what is going to happen. Our preacher friend Eddie cannot understand how I cannot have any idea what is going to come out of Hammie’s mouth, but it is true. It is probably best that I don’t do this live.
Don’t forget that you can order your U. S. Postage stamps through Amazon and save a trip to the post office! Your purchase also provides us a small commission.
Happy New Year, y’all.
I think the Smurf glass concerto was so much fun that you would have done it anyway, even knowing what you know now. :) I love you, my Zing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for these great fill-in answers. That is an interesting story about the Smurf glass. I like the Mutts comic strip, they do promote adopting strays, but nothing political. Most senior centers offer free Tai Chi classes so you may want to check yours. I hope you have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining in on the Friendly Fill-Ins! Wouldn't it be something if we could turn back time and have a second chance here and there? I have always been intrigued by Tai Chi myself, and now I'm eager to look into it. I hope your 2019 has been happy and healthy thus far!
