Many of you have heard how I, David E. McClendon Sr.
have been in the hospital, and now nursing home, since 11 December 2017. I had
an operation on my left foot. There is
an ulcer that has been there for over 20 years.
We get it healed and it opens back up.
The only way to reduce the chance of going back down
the same road again is to get the weight off of it completely. The only way to do that is with a knee
scooter and a wheelchair. We also need to purchase another wedge.
The problem is that since I can technically still
walk, Medicare won’t pay for it.
Therefore, the only way to get one is to self-pay. We don’t have the financial resources to do
this so, we have started this GoFundMe.
We estimate that with taxes and the GoFundMe fees
that it will take about $400. We appreciate any donations. Thank You.
David E. McClendon

Hello, folks. We have good news. We have found a doctor that will provide the kind of anesthesia that Suzanne will require for the surgery. This doctor’s initial visit will cost $335. This means we had to raise the level of funding we need for the surgery to $8,200. We have no insurance for Suzanne.
As you know, 7.9% of all donations go to GoFundMe as well as 30¢ per donation. Our best guesstimate is that this should provide enough for the surgery and initial doctor visits necessary. Suzanne will need to see a primary care doctor before the surgery.
Please help us by donating all you can. If you can’t donate, we understand and appreciate it. Please promote this fund on all your social media outlets. Thank you for all your help.
Regards in Christ,
David E. McClendon, Sr.

A big thank you goes out to all those people who have contributed to Suzanne’s Eye Surgery GoFundMe fundraiser. You are great! We still have a long way to go.
Thank you especially to all you Marines who have donated.
Folks, these wonderful Marines, who don’t make enough as it is, have dug deep into their pockets and have been responsible for many of the donations, including some of the largest ones. Like usual, the Marines are kicking butt and taking names.
Then, we have college students. These wonderful young adults, some of whom have to sell their blood and plasma just to eat, have given much to this fund. These people, who live off of ramen noodles, beans, and rice, have given generously.
Thank you to everyone else as well. We have come pretty far. We have reached 9.6% of our goal in the first week. Please don’t let this campaign stall out.
Please help us promote this. If you have a blog, Twitter, YouTube, or any kind of social media, please promote it all you can on these outlets. If you don’t, you can still help. Send email to your entire contact list. Tell everyone you know.
Time is of the essence. The sooner Suzanne has this surgery, the better the results will be. Without the surgery, this Christmas may be the last Christmas Suzanne gets to see the Christmas lights.
Someone wrote and asked us if they could give via PayPal. The answer is yes. If you wish to donate via PayPal, send it as a gift to celticmama36@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support. Please keep us in your prayers. By the way, if you know of a program out there that will pay for the surgery, please let us know.
Regards in Christ,
David E. McClendon

Some of us are not able to donate to a cause like this. But, there is still something you can do to help us. If you have a blog, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, or any other type of social media outlet, you could still help us us.
Quite frankly, the reach of our blogs and other social media outlets is quite limited. Would you please take the time to make a post on some, if not all, of your social media outlets to promote this campaign?
Here are the details.
This past Monday, 12 December 2016, Suzanne went to the vision center at our local Walmart and had her eyes tested. By her next birthday, she has to renew her driver’s license. We knew her vision had gotten bad over the last few years and that she might have a problem passing the eye test for her license.
The optometrist saw cataracts in both eyes. Suzanne is completely blind in one eye and has been since she was very young.
The optometrist suggested that we see to surgery right away. The sooner we do this, the better chances there are to restore her sight.
If we don’t get the surgery for her, this may well be the last Christmas she gets to see the pretty Christmas lights and other decorations. It is that serious.
I called the only ophthalmologist we know. Her office gave me a ballpark figure. They referred me to the local hospital who also gave me a ballpark figure. They put me in touch with the anesthesiologist who was very non-committal, but gave me a ballpark figure as well.
We really are dealing with a guesstimate here. The costs could be higher. Of course, we may find a program that will take care of this for us.
In the recent past, we have applied for Medicaid and Indigent Care. We are told that we don’t qualify for either.
Our monthly income is $1221 in Social Security Disability (SSDI). This will go up to $1225 in January 2017.
We receive $99 in food stamps (SNAP) each month. This will go down to $97 in January due to the increase in the SSDI. From time to time, we will get a few cents (literally less than $1) in royalties from the sale of one of our books.
We have a YouTube channel that is generating ad income at the rate of about $1 per month. So far we have earned a total of $9.80 from YouTube. They will not pay out until we reach $100.
You could help us there, too, if you would please watch ourvideos and let the advertisements play. I am not asking you to watch any advertisements that you feel would be inappropriate.
But, if you will please, watch the advertisements in their entirety and let the whole video play completely. This will help.
Please, don’t use any automatic reloader to replay the ads. YouTube has programs in place to guard against this. Please actually watch the ads and videos. Someone thought they were helping us by doing this and YouTube took away all the revenue generated by those views.
If you can donate, please do. If you would like to download the graphic I created for the GoFundMe account to use to link to the fund, feel free to do so. The widgets on the GoFundMe site don’t seem to work for us.
Again, thank you for all your support. Please keep us in your prayers. We are praying for a miracle. God can do this. You can help. Please promote this on all your social media.
Just so you know, GoFundMe charges us a 30¢ fee per donation along with 7.9% of the donation.
Thank you.
David E. McClendon.
