Word High July 05 July 2016 kalina

Today’s word is kalinaw.  This word means serenity or tranquility.  This is very hard to find these days.   We live in a world where the younger generation, and even some of the older folk, cannot live unless they are talking or texting on the phone while watching something on television or driving, or even both.

We have worked in convenience stores that had a television that we would turn off when we worked.   The first thing out of peoples’ mouths when they came in was, “Why don’t you have on the television?”   These people would be in the store for less than five minutes, yet they did not know what to do unless they were bombarded by noise.  In this store, we had the video game machines dinging and ringing along with a music service that was playing.   This should have provided enough noise for someone who was messaging on their phone. For some reason, it wasn’t.

A hospital room should be peaceful.  However, once I checked into the hospital and before I could get in the bed, the nurse or nurses’ assistant had turned on the television in my room.  That is more than I need.

What I need is a peaceful place along a creek or river that does not have alligators, a large glass of tea, and my beautiful child-bride Suzanne by my side.

What about you?  What makes your life peaceful?

Here are a few other posts on today's word

  1. awww. your peaceful place is indeed full of serenity.

I think mine would be in a bed with a coffee and a book. <3 Thank you for sharing!

  2. Thank you. It is so difficult to find any place where there is not constant noise.

  3. Silence is an interesting concept in the modern age. I think we are now conditioned to operate in noisy environments.

    1. Thank you, Davy. It seems no matter where we try to go we are bombarded with noise. When I was growing up, my mother had to have the T.V. on just for the noise. People today have the T.V., the computer, a telephone, and other things all going at the same time. I would like to put on a set of noise cancelling headphones and just listen to baroque music and chill.
