Throwback Thursday 01 September 2016

In the spirit of the new meme Suzanne is hosting, September 19 Somethin’Challenge, I would like to share this picture of Suzanne and I from back in September 1986 at my brother’s wedding.

The thing about it is that neither one of us wanted to be there.  My father begged us to be there.  The bride, my brother’s now ex-wife, did not want us to be a part of the wedding almost as much as we did not want to be in the wedding.  But, to keep the peace, Suzanne and I went.

This particular union was a very strange pairing indeed.  I think she was the oldest child of an allegedly abusive father.  He was the youngest child of two parents who indulged him in just about everything.

Just before my wedding to Suzanne, my brother and my best friend made a few derogatory remarks about Suzanne when I refused to have the typical bachelor party.

Instead, most of my groomsmen and I went to Red Lobster and had the all-you-can-eat popcorn shrimp.

I wanted to go all out for my brother.  Rather than put him through the kind of torment he tried to put me through over a bachelor party, Suzanne and I planned a wedding party for the happy couple.  We invited all their friends and everyone we could think of.  The couple did not show up for the party. I had even rented a large venue out in the middle of nowhere so we could have music as loud as we wanted.  We had a good time.

No one was going to throw a bridal shower for my brother’s bride, so Suzanne organized and paid for one.  Since all of our relatives who could have babysat our baby son were at the shower, Suzanne took him with her.  There was no one to watch him.

Not one of the bride’s friends showed up.  The only thing the bride said to Suzanne was “Pretty classy having a baby at a bridal shower, huh?”

After my brother’s wedding, we were at the wedding reception.  My father came up to me and said, “Your brother is disappointed because no one is decorating his car.”  I told him, "That is his friends’ job, not mine."  My father actually gave me money to go out and buy stuff to decorate my brother’s car.

My father actually offered to pay me to decorate the car.  I told my father, no, I would decorate it as a favor to him, but it was supposed to be something my brother’s friends did.

  2. A beautiful place to get married. I went to my friend's wedding here this past weekend. The wedding venues are beautiful, one of the nicest locations for a wedding I've ever been. The ceremony was very nice and felt very intimate.

    1. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. The wedding was at Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina. This is the same church Suzanne and I were married in. They also had their reception at the same place we had ours. Same photographers, same sound engineer. In fact, almost everything they did was an exact duplicate of our wedding. I guess they felt like since it worked for us it would work for them.
