Wednesday Hodgepodge -21 September 2016
1. Thursday (September 22) is the first official day of autumn in this part of the world...how will you welcome the season? I know some of you have been celebrating way too early, but it's official now so permission granted. House Beautiful recently listed ten ways to make your home smell like fall (you can read the list here) What's a scent you love this time of year and how will you add it to your home?
I used to love the smell of a wood fire this time of year. It is too hot out here to have a wood fire. Maybe I could get some burning wood air fresheners somewhere.
2. Apple pie or pumpkin pie? Apple cake or pumpkin bread? Warm apple cider or a pumpkin spice latte?
2. Apple pie or pumpkin pie? Apple cake or pumpkin bread? Warm apple cider or a pumpkin spice latte?
In the immortal words of Radio, “Bof”. I like pumpkin pie and apple pie. I prefer pecan pie. I don’t think I have ever had apple cake or pumpkin bread. I choose banana nut bread. I have to say warm apple cider because latte just ain’t my thing.
3 3.Do you suffer from what is sometimes referred to as an afternoon slump? What helps ward it off before it hits and/or tell us what helps you shake it off once it's here?
I did not used to have this problem. Now, I just take a nap. I am retired so, I can sleep when I want, get up when I want. Eat when Suzanne has the food ready, whenever we want that to be.
4. Ladies-how have your friendships with women inspired you or made you a better person? For the men here today- how have your friendships with men inspired you or made you a better person?
I cannot say. I have a few good friends that I enjoy talking with from time to time. We had some good times that I have written about in this blog. But made me a better person? I am sure there is something, but I don’t know what it is.
5. Are you a people pleaser? If you said yes, do you think that's a good or bad thing? If you said no, do you wish you were more of a people pleaser?
I think I am kind of on the fence here. I have worked in retail for so long; I had to find ways to make people happy. However, I am the type who, when someone is over for a visit, if I am ready for the visit to be over, will get up and walk the person to the door, open the door and tell them to come back when they can stay longer as I gently push them out the door and lock the door behind them. I have actually done this.
The older I get, the less I care about who I offend.
6. The seasons are a-changin'...share a favorite song relating in some way to change (not necessarily seasonal change, it could be change of any kind).
How about the song that says, “We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun…”
7. What do you wish would never change?
I will have to get back with you on that. I would like improvements on so many areas of our lives. It would be nice to see Houston stay where it is and not grow any closer to where we are right now. But, I would like to change to some place out in the middle of the woods.
We are glad for another stroke-free week. We are glad we could hear from our Marine. We are praying that the rented textbook that disappeared during our youngest daughter’s move will rematerialize before it is due.
We are looking forward to launching How to Manage Your Monkey on November 3, 2016, on our 32nd wedding anniversary.

Since the strokes, I am napping all the time. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
DeleteI love Radio's response. :) It is so honest and innocent.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see us out in the middle of the woods, too. In the woods in a place where we can actually grow something!
The woods would be great. I want bof kinds of pie, too.
DeleteI laughed at your #5!!! I've often wanted to do this. LOL There have been a few times when I've actually said that I was going to bed and please turn out the lights before they leave. I guess that's about the same thing. :-)
ReplyDeleteYep, that sounds like the same thing. Some people just don't get the hint. I have had unexpected guests show up. Since I was not ready to entertain guests, we just talked on the back step. My time and my space is just that, MINE!
DeleteI'm so glad you heard from your Marine : ) Seasons in the Sun! I remember that one, such a sad song. I love the smell of a wood fire too. Gas is convenient, but definitely not the same feel as wood. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteYep, gas can provide heat, but it is not so good at ambiance. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
DeleteI am glad you heard from your Marine. I wonder what happened to that textbook? Did you look under the seats in the car? When I was in college, I had a lost book and it had slid under my roommate's car seat.
ReplyDeleteIt was packed into a box at her old apartment and taken straight to the new apartment. When she opened the box, it was not there. She said it was right on top of the box. She is going to try calculatus eliminatus to see what happens. Like the Cat in the Hat says, the way to find a missing something is to find out where it's not.
DeleteI'm with ya; there's nothing better than a good nap! Happy upcoming anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and commenting. A good nap helps put it all in perspective. Have a great week.
