Wednesday Hodgepodge 4 January 2017

1. 1.     Share one favorite moment/memory from your Christmas holiday.

Our Christmas holiday was uneventful.  In days of old, my family that I grew up with would have a Christmas get together which invariably would end in drama.  Someone would get their feelings hurt and someone would slam doors.

This year, we had our daughters home with us.  This is great.  We also got to Skype with our Marine.

2. What was the best thing you ate over the holidays? Was it homemade or store bought? If it was homemade did you make it?

Suzanne cooked turkey, dressing, squash casserole, green bean casserole and much more. It was all great.  She cooked it all.

3. What was one of the most beautiful things you saw over the holidays?

We only briefly left our little town.  The Christmas decorations were great.  Our town decorated the square very well.

4. What does fresh start mean to you?

Kitty Litter.  No, that is Fresh STEP.  To me, a fresh start is beginning again with a clean slate.
5. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very positive and 1 being not so great) how would you rate 2016 in terms of personal achievement and well being? Explain.

Well, I am alive.  That was a major achievement.  Other than that high note, 2016 was a crappy year.  I give it a 1.   Suzanne got the bad news that she needs eye surgery and we are broker than the Liberty Bell, as our daughter says.

6. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse, or just general uselessness. Go here to read more about how the words were chosen or, if you're like me, to find out what in the world the word or phrase even means or the context in which it's used. There were quite a few on this year's list I'd never heard before.

Here's the 2017 list of banished words-

You, Sir-focus-Bete Noire-Town Hall Meeting-Post Truth-guesstimate-831-historic-manicured-echo chamber-on fleek-bigly-ghost-Dadbod-listicle-get your dander up-selfie drone-frankenfruit-disruption

Which word on the list would you most like to see banished in 2017? What word or phrase would you add to the list?

I am unfamiliar with the Queen’s English.  I live in Texas.  This is a whole ‘nother country down here.  We don’t use most of those words.  We do say Sir and Ma’am.  The things that get me are baby mama, baby daddy, PIN number, and ATM machine.

7. Large or small, light or deep, share with us one goal you have for the new year.

Many of you have suggested different charities that will help get Suzanne the eye surgery.  We are looking into all of those.  Our chief problem is our income.  We receive $1225 in social security and $97 in SNAP.  Somehow, that means we make too much for her to get Medicaid or Indigent Care.  We are looking into everything.  Thank you.

My goal is to get her this surgery and to get us back to South Carolina, at least for a visit, so she can take some pretty pictures and look up some genealogy things.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

2017 promises to be a great year.   The so-called Affordable Care Act has cost our family a great deal of money.  When they repeal it, we may be able to get some relief.  We will get Suzanne’s surgery funded.  We will be able to get healthy again.  We will get Suzanne someplace where she can take great pictures.

We need your help. If you can give, please do so.  If you have a blog or other social media, please help us promote this.   We cannot do it without you.  Pray for our family.  We can do this.  You can help.

Suzanne has a new blog at https://psannie2.wordpress.com/.  I also have a new blog at https://howtomanageyourmonkey.wordpress.com. Come join us.

    1. It was great. Suzanne is an excellent cook. For New Years Day, she made a ham, collard greens, and black-eyed peas, a typical Southern New Year's celebration.
