This meme is called 2017 September's Where I Come From Challenge
This challenge is based on Kenny Chesney's song "Back Where I Come From".
Suzanne over at PS-Annie! and McClendon villa has included home-and hometown-related questions to round out our 30 days of posts.
Come on and join in. It will be a blast.
Today’s question is:
22. Did you have chores when you were a kid? What were they? What did you think about having chores? What was your least favorite chore? Is it still?
We two older kids had chores. I don’t remember if my brother had any or not. We were supposed to make our beds every morning before we went down to eat breakfast. Our rooms were always kept neat, except my brother’s.
My sister and I would take turns washing dishes and drying them. We had to vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, etc. I also had to mow the grass at our house, the store, and the rent houses.
We had to pick up pecans (pronounced Pea Can) and pears that fell off the trees.
We also worked at the store. The really fun things were working at the store. It was like we had a house where all our friends would stop by for a visit from time to time.
My favorite chore, I guess, would be mowing the grass. I can’t do that any more.
Starting in October, the Christmas toys would arrive at the store. One chore I had was to assemble them. The first Big Wheel of the year was always a challenge. After the first, they got easier. The trick was to always lay out the parts and identify them before you started assembling the toy to make sure they were all there and that you really knew which part was which part.
Bicycles were fun to put together. After the first year, I could put them together better and faster than most of the other employees. I just took them one at a time and did not get overwhelmed because we had so many to put together.

I have always enjoyed cutting grass, too. I used to get to cut Aunt Vi's grass. I don't remember ever doing it at my parents' home when I was a kid. It seems like Daddy always mowed our yard. I would enjoy cutting it here if it weren't for cigarette smoke.
ReplyDeleteI love you, my Zing. :)
