The following is a guest post.  This post does not necessarily reflect the views of Suzanne and David E. McClendon, Sr. or Manian Debil Productions.

Don’t forget, go to How To Manage Your Monkey to learn how you could win an autographed copy of Master Your Cash Flow.

Here are the fill-ins:

1. When it is hot, I stay inside and melt.
It is just too darned hot to go outside right now here on the Gulf Coast.  Actually, right now it isn’t too bad. We are having rain and it is a cool 77 degrees.  Usually it is in the triple digits about this time.

2. I am looking forward to not melting this month.

We would be looking forward to watermelon, but that is out of the budget right now.  Back when we were kids, we would be running under the sprinkler in our underwear.

3. The theme song of my life would be Living on Love by (Alan Jackson).

This really would work for us.  We have spent most of our married life counting pennies and getting by.  Some couples would have split over this.

Suzanne has gotten really good at this. Back in 1987, when I was jobless and we had a one year old, Suzanne fed us on $7 a week for several weeks.

4. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

This is literally true. Back in the day at many schools, kids had different colored lunch tickets showing the way the ticket was paid for.  As we understand it, even today there are often two lunch lines at some schools where paid for lunches are served from one line and “free” lunches are served from another line.

The list goes on. But you will often hear people griping about their tax dollars going to feed others’ kids.  Many of those people work and pay taxes, too. Some families are only temporarily down on their luck due to layoffs which happened because of corporate greed.

The list goes on.  We see more and more of it every day.  We see some because of the research we do with How to Manage Your Monkey, but we see some of it because we live it here in the trenches.

  1. It has been very hot, i am glad i work indoors.

There is no free lunch, someone pays for it somewhere, somehow. When my daughter was in public school, i offered to give her lunch money if she didn't want to pack a lunch each day and she told me she could get a free lunch at school. When i said we wouldn't qualify for the free lunches, she told me that because over 70% of the kids at her school do qualify for free or reduced cost lunch, they just give it free to all of the kids. That is every school in our parish (county)! Lunches are a program i am glad our tax dollars support, but there are many others i wish could be reformed or eliminated.

    1. Not too long ago here in Texas, a child had their tray and when the child got to the register, it was discovered that there wasn't enough money on the student's debit card. The food was taken from the child and thrown away.

Now in this district, all students eat free. I think it should be that way.

    1. It is kind of cool here right now. It is in the upper 80s. Suz can be pretty amazing with how she can make a meal out of nothing.

  3. Thank you for joining in on the Friendly Fill-Ins! We finally hit temperatures as low as 75°F yesterday afternoon, after it finally rained. Aside from that, we've hit at least 90°F every day for quite some time. Like you, that makes me melt.

I wish more people realized that it's not money or goods that make you rich. It seems to me that you and Suzanne know that, and that's a very respectable thing. Have a beautiful day!

    1. Many people are ruled by their possessions. They will work themselves to death so they can have a new car every year or two. Like the song I mentioned in my post says, "Love takes more than marble and tile."

  4. I think that from the feline point of view, there actually is such a thing as a free lunch, and breakfast and dinner and snacks! (At least free to the felines, I understand that the humans pay for it).

  5. I wish that we could buy groceries for only $7 a week and be well-fed. That would be great. So long as we're together, anything we have will be just fine by me.
    Love you, my Zing.
