Just when I think I have seen it all…
Last night Suzanne and I decided to stop by a local all-night
restaurant for a little desert and coffee. Actually I had coffee and Suzanne
had a diet Coke, but that isn’t important to the story.
There was an episode of the Andy Griffith Show called Eat Your
Heart Out (Season 6 Episode 24) where Goober has fallen for a new waitress,
Flora, at the diner and he introduces Andy to her. Goober wants Andy to tell
Flora how strong and handsome, etc. Goober is. Well, instead of falling for
Goober, Flora falls for Andy. Andy already has a steady girlfriend, Helen, by
this time.
When Flora goes to serve Andy and Goober their meals, she
wants to give Andy the larger portion. As it turns out, the larger portion is
in the hand closest to Goober so she crosses her arms to serve the meatloaf.
This seems rather goofy and juvenile, but funny for a sit-com.
Last night Suzanne and I saw it happen in real life. It was
so blatantly obvious as to be funny, sad, and pathetic. When the waitress
brought our apple crisp, she actually crossed her arms so that she served me
the larger portion. It really happened. I can’t image why this woman would do
that, but she did. Here is an Andy Griffith episode playing out in real life.
