Friendly Fill Ins 15 July 2016

Hello again folks.  It is time again for FRIENDLY Fill-Ins. Each week participants are given a list of blanks to fill in.  It is a lot of fun and there is a great sense of community with these.  Come on, join in the fun. No, really, it is not required that you have a cat to participate.

Friendly Fill-Ins  - 15 July 2016

Here are this week's statements with the blanks:

Week 10: July 15, 2016

1. I prefer Duke’s Mayonnaise to Miracle Whip. Recently I asked my aunt for my grandmother’s (Granny For Short) recipe for Deviled Eggs.  She had the audacity to suggest my grandmother, that dear sweet lady, a woman who was raised in a Southern Baptist Church, dared to put Miracle Whip and mustard in her deviled eggs.

I cannot believe such a thing ever could have happened.  Friends, when you get to Heaven and you walk up to the tomato sandwich table, you can bet that there will be jars of Duke’s Mayonnaise there and not one jar of Miracle Whip in sight.

2. Parenthood  was much harder than I expected.

When I was growing up, I would see people with their kids on a leash and think, sometimes out loud, “I would never put my child on a leash like some animal."  Well, never say never. When our oldest son, a Chief Petty Officer in the World’s Most Powerful Navy now, was young, he had ADHD something fierce. The only way to keep up with him was with a leash.

There were countless times before that we would put him down for a minute in a mall and he would be off like a flash.

Also, we used to see grubby kids out in public wearing nothing but a diaper.  I would think, "I would never, ever, let my child go around in just a diaper looking so grubby."

By the time our baby child was a toddler, we were happy if we could keep her IN a diaper.

We would sandblast the child and have her looking all sweet and clean.  Then, we would turn around with her still on the chair and look back and she would be naked as a jay bird, covered in filth from who knows where, just smiling and singing “Sunny day, sweeping the clouds away.”

3. One way that I relax is Just having my child-bride Suzanne present.

After I had three strokes, I was in the hospital. Suzanne had to ride back to the little town we are from to take care of a few things at home and get my phone.  Well, the nurse took my blood pressure and it was through the roof even with several blood pressure medications.

The nurse asked what was wrong and I told her Suzanne wasn’t there and I did not have my phone to call her.  The nurse dialed Suzanne from the room phone and I was able to talk to her.  My blood pressure dropped from critical to normal in seconds.

4. Youngest daughter Magpie always makes laugh.

We actually call her Maggie most of the time, but I often call her Magpie.  Her sense of humor is very much like mine.

We are just a little weird.  The other day she thought she would see if it was really hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. She had some eggs that were about to expire anyway, so she took one out to the sidewalk in front of her dorm.  The egg really did fry and she fed it to a campus cat. So, at least here on the Gulf Coast, it is hot enough to fry an egg on the side walk.

Well folks that is it for today.  We really enjoy this meme.  This group even has a cat that loves the water, can you believe that?

Please visit my Child-Bride, Suzanne.

Today, in honor of our angel baby Dorian’s 23rd birthday in heaven, we will be giving all of our books away free.  Please download and read these books.  We have had to change the way we make money here since I suffered three strokes back in May.  We no longer sell Avon door-to door, but you can still buy it on our website .  You can also help us by purchasing things from our Etsy store.

Special Notice

You can help us by downloading our books free.  Then, read them.  Every quarter, Amazon has a contest to determine which 100 authors in the United States have the most pages read.  If we make it into the top 100, we will share a part in a pool of money Amazon sets aside for the top 100 authors.

Please also give us feedback on our books and leave your honest review at Amazon.  We thank you.

    1. I really like this meme. Yes, Suzanne is my Zing (Hotel Transylvania 2). As far as losing a child, I am sure she is watching as well. Have a great weekend.

  3. I love your creative, genuine answers, David.Your stories about Suzanne and the kids are so sweet and heartfelt. To be honest, I do things like that, too...frying an egg on the sidewalk. Bill sometimes looks at me like I have lost my mind. But, he loves me anyway!
Thanks for being part of Friendly Friday! Hugs to you and your "Child Bride".

    1. Thanks. Back where I come from people like me are referred to as "half a bubble off center". People have often said to me, "Boy, you ain't right". They were not referring to whether I was correct or not; they were talking about how I was not right in the head. Have a great day. You and Bill have a great weekend.
