September 19Somethin’ Challenge Day 4
Today is day four of the September 19 Somethin’ Challenge. Are you playing along? Come on, all the big kids do it. It will make you popular.
Cruise by McClendon Villa or PS Annie! to get the details and play along.
Question number 4 is: Did you have a sports hero? Who was he or she and what was their sport?
The answer is, not really. I do remember following the Braves extra closely when Hank
Aaron was getting close to breaking Babe Ruth’s home run record. I was watching the game on television when he did. We were so proud when he finally broke it.
No bench ever flew away when I was on the team |
I also remember watching David Pearson’s pit crew set a NASCAR record for the fastest full pit stop. I am not a NASCAR fan. In fact, I can get all my race watching done during the time another network is running a commercial. I hit the remote and find the race. After about a lap, I go back to the other channel.
As I understand it, and I don’t remember all the details, but Pearson’s crew completely refueled the car and changed all four tires in just over 13 seconds.
I can’t even figure out which end of the lug wrench to use in 13 seconds. So, for me that was amazing. The fact that Pearson was from Spartanburg and I was living in Spartanburg at the time made it more special.
So, have you joined the group? Are you playing the game?
See you again tomorrow.
That is impressive to change tires in 13 seconds!
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing to watch. I saw it on TV as it happened, but did not know to be impressed until it came out in the paper the next day. I just don't remember all the details.
