Throwback Thursday 15 September 2016
I would like to go way back today.  Way back to before I was eight years old.  If you look closely at the picture here, you may see my pet dinosaur nearby.
This particular photo was taken at our baseball end-of-season picnic.  We had a parade featuring the Atlanta Braves mascot Chief Knoca Homa.  I am not sure how it is spelled.
My mother took this picture.  I am the one wearing the green windbreaker.  Shortly after she took the pictures, she went home.  We were going to have a picnic.  My mom had made a great big bowl of potato salad for me to take.
While I was at the picnic, my mother spoke to my Aunt Mary Ann about the picnic and found out that the picnic was to be a fundraiser for the baseball league and that there was a charge for the picnic.
I did not know this either and was in line at the picnic to get food.  I was hungry after my team’s game in the tournament.  It takes a lot of energy to keep a bench from flying away during a game.
I was standing in line when I found out there was a charge.  I did not know what to do.  I was hungry and had no money.  I started to cry.  A man and his wife were behind me in line and he told me not to worry about it, he would pay for it.
Well, he paid for it and I got to eat.  While I was eating, my mother pulled up and gave me money for the food.  I found the man and gave him back his money.  He was very nice.
This is why I feel so bad for all the kids who are denied food at school because there is not enough money on their debit cards.  I think we should make all school meals free for all.
What about you, did you ever have a similar experience?
Thanks for stopping by on Throwback Thursday.  We hope you will join us at How to Manage Your Monkey starting 03 November 2016.

I think it is cool that you got to meet Chief Knoca Homa. I love the headdress. I wonder what our other chief would have looked like in a headdress like that.
ReplyDeleteHe would have looked awesome!

DeleteGreat photo. I am glad someone paid for your food. I agree that no child should have to starve.
ReplyDeleteThanks. No child should ever be hungry, especially when there is food available. When schools take a child's plate and throw it away in front of them, it is wrong on all levels. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
