Here are the fill-ins:

1. My favorite part of November is our anniversary.
In fact, Suzanne and I were married on this day, 33 years ago.  We were married at 4 PM at Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina.  You can check out my post made several years ago.

2. Every November, I reminisce about time gone by..
Suzanne was newly pregnant on our first anniversary.  This also meant that she was pregnant at Thanksgiving.

Suzanne had major bouts of morning sickness with our first son.  She could not keep anything at all on her stomach.  Jared did allow her to keep her Thanksgiving meal down.

Thanksgiving is Suzanne’s favorite holiday.  I enjoy it, too.  It has changed a lot since I was a kid.  Way back when, the Macy’s Christmas parade was about the bands and the floats.  It was not about what D list celebrity was lip syncing, usually badly to the song from their upcoming, off, off, off broadway play.

3. For me, peace is found in our home.
Do you remember in the Lion King where Zazu say’s “There is one in every family, two in fact in mine, and they are always ruining special occasions.”?  When we stay home for the holidays, we avoid a lot of that drama.

We had a married-in relative, who is no longer in the family, thank goodness. She always had the best time or the worst time, no matter what.  Nothing normal ever happened to her.  If you had a great time at a party, she had an even greater one.  If you walked at six months of age, she walked at four.  If someone was like a father to you, he was a real father to her.

If you and your kid had to wait 45 minutes to see Santa, she and her kid had to wait 4 hours; you get the point.  Special occasions were always messed up by drama.  Staying at home, we can avoid that, we hope.

4. So far, my upcoming holiday plans are stay home and eat.

Years ago we decided that since our oldest daughter’s birthday is exactly a week before Christmas, we would celebrate “First Christmas” on her birthday.  The tree goes up on that day, if she wants it to.  We exchange gifts that day, if she wants to.

Then, on regular Christmas we have “Second Christmas.” We decided this was a good idea because we may have sons or daughters-in-law whose families wanted them to be there for their family’s Christmas.

So far, this hasn’t really worked out.  We have never met either of our daughters-in-law.  But, you never know. It could happen someday.

Well, folks, we hope you all have a blessed week.

  2. Happy Anniversary to you both. FDR said, "Peace, like charity, begins at home." Of course, it begins with each of us. I wish you and your bride many more years together, filled with love and happiness.
