Book Review: Prancie's Prayer by Ellen J. Pilch Illustrated by Nicolas Peruzzo ISBN: 978-1-61225-407-4

By now all of our readers know that we here at McClendon Villa are animal lovers.  That is why we love Prancie's Prayer by Ellen J. Pilch, which was illustrated by Nicolas Peruzzo. It is such a wonderful story. It shows that animals are part of the Kingdom, too.

This story is Christian-based. It takes place around Christmas, so it would make a wonderful Christmas present, or early Christmas present, for your kids.

This very heartwarming story is extremely well-written and the illustrations are magnificent.  We give it all five stars and a can of tuna. You are looking for a great gift for your young child. You could not do better than Prancie's Prayer.

We were sent a complimentary copy of this book.  We are under no obligation to write any review, positive or negative.

McClendon Studios Presents: If God Wants You To Have A Cat...

If God Wants You To Have A Cat

You heard about how my wife turned one kitty into two.  Now, read how no cats turned into four.

Years ago, my kids asked if they could have a cat.  I told them no, we could not afford to buy a cat.  I went on further to say, “If God wants you to have a cat, He will give you a cat.”

The very next day, I had to go under the house for something.   There, in the crawl space was not one, but four little kitties.  They were just barely old enough to be weaned, but there was no mama around.

I did not want to tell the kids that I had found the cats because now they would want them and make the rationalization that God had indeed given them a cat.

Well, I knew that I had been licked.  I told the kids and they came and got the cats out from under the house.

There was one solid black one, male; one solid black one, female; one black and white one (black with white feet and a white chest), female; and one solid white one (really kind of cream colored), female.

The kids named the male Whiskers, the black female Charcoal, the black and white female Mittens and the white one Glaze.
Princess Mittens

Glaze decided she did not want anything to do with being a house cat and out she went. Soon after she moved outside, she disappeared.

The other cats stayed in the house and were no problem.

We had the boy neutered since we did not want him to spray in the house.

Then, one day the kids found a solid black male kitty who appeared to be very sick.  I told them to leave him alone because he might make the others sick.

You know kids.  They brought him in anyway.  We were a struggling household of nine people trying to make it by on my disability.  I found out that a local animal charity had a program to take care of vet bills, so off to the vet we went.

This new cat was named Kris by my wife, which was short for Krispy Kreme.

These four cats moved with us to Texas and all eventually went to live in Rainbow Bridge.  I have learned to never say “If God wants…” because He WILL show you His power, and His sense of humor.

Throwback Thursday 28 July 2016 A Bride and Her Cats

A Bride and Her Cats

Throwback ThursdayWhen Suzanne and I first started dating, one thing I noticed was that there were a lot of cats at her house.  All of them were outside cats.

It seems that Suzanne’s home, which I later dubbed “The Plantation”, was the Kool-Aid House for cats.  You remember the old commercials; there was always one house where the kids congregated because the mom always served Kool-Aid to the kids.

The cats all congregated at The Plantation for no known reason. They just seemed to find the place.

I had always been of the mindset that cats are just furry snakes.  I always thought they were sneaky and just waiting to attack.  That was a long time ago.

One day, while visiting Suzanne at The Plantation, I was leaning up against the car talking to Suzanne’s brothers when a cat came up to me and started rubbing on my leg.  I asked her brothers what the cat’s name was and one told me its name was Trouble.

I picked Trouble up and started petting it.  Trouble was evidently sick because very shortly after I picked him up, he pooped very runny poop all over me.

Suzanne and I were planning to go out that night.  I had runny cat poop all over me.  I had to drive over seven miles back to McClendon Manor to get a shower and change of clothes.

A few days later, Trouble showed up at The Plantation with his tail cut off.  Someone had chopped this cat’s tail very short.  I thought that was incredibly mean.  Suzanne’s brothers thought I had done it in retaliation for him pooping on me.  I figured Trouble was sick and could not help it.

Another day, a new cat showed up at The Plantation.  Suzanne’s brother Ray
Fernwood J. Worthington the Third
had decided I should name this cat.  Therefore, an impromptu naming ceremony took place right then and there.  The cat was mostly black with white paws and a white chest.  I thought he looked like a sophisticated man wearing a tuxedo so I named him Fernwood J. Worthington the Third.

When Suzanne and I got married, we did not have a pet.  Soon after we moved into our first home, Suzanne asked if she could bring her kitty from The Plantation.  This cat’s name was Cuddles.

Cuddles was black with white feet and a white chest. Are you seeing a trend yet?

One night Suzanne and I were walking through the Anderson Mall about closing time.  Suzanne saw a pet store and wanted to go in. I did not want to go in, but went in anyway.  I thought, "This can’t end well".

After a few minutes, Suzanne saw two little kitties playing in a cage.  One was white with some black on its face. The other was solid black.

Suzanne asked for one of the kitties.  I said “No”.  Suzanne asked again.  I reminded her we already had Cuddles.  She asked again.  She started picking out toys and a litter pan, a litter scoop, and some kitty food.  I said” Okay”.  Two hundred dollars later, we were the proud owner of a cat and all the fixins.

As we walked out the door, the manager locked the gate that shows the store is closed.  Suzanne turned to me and said, "Now the other baby will be all alone tonight.  This little baby will be lonesome too."  So, that is when I turned around and yelled to the store manager to open the gate. I knew I had lost this one.

We had to pay double for that second cat because the manager had to reopen the store and get the register back up.

Suzanne was happy.  It made me happy to see the look in her eyes.  The new kittles names were Bandit and Farnsworth.  They were inside cats with Cuddles.

Friendly Fill-Ins for 24 June 2016

Friday_Fill-In_Badge

Well, folks, it is that time again.  Time for Friendly Fill-Ins.  This is a great meme where bloggers like me are asked to fill in the blank with our best answer.  Come on and join the fun. You can get hooked up with the meme prompts here.  If that link does not work, or if you just have to choose option B because that is the type of person you are, you can click here instead.

WEEK 7: June 24, 2016…

1. My feelings get hurt when_______.    This is a good one because my first thought is I don’t remember having hurt feelings in a long time.. That being said, something my child-bride, Suzanne’s Granny said when her relatives would not come to visit her, “To ____ with them."  I don’t know that I get my feelings hurt over it, but I hate to be corrected.  That is just my way.  I like to be the one with the answers.

2. I am excited about_____.   This is hard to say when your life is Same-o Same-o, day in and day out. However, I am excited about our Marine coming home to visit next year.  It seems like forever ago that we saw him.  Skype helps, as does the Messenger on the phone, but it is just not the same.  I am also excited about getting to have our daughter home for a few days in August.  She is our baby and she turns 21 this Sunday.  She won’t be here for her birthday, which is the pits. We also get excited about the memes we post on.  We can’t wait for the new list for that week.  We are also excited waiting on our tomatoes to produce.

3. _____ first, then _____.  The very first thing that came to mind on that was Bill Cosby talking about the futility of having on clean drawers in case one gets in an accident.  He said, “First you say it, then you do it.”  Then, the years of business school with the “Plan your work first, then work your plan.” That is an old cliché that just haunts you.

4. One time, I got very sick at the beach, that’s why I hate the beach.  You can read
Cats Make Great Therapists

more about that in my testimony, but when I was fourteen years old, my sister talked me into going on a beach retreat to North Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

While there, I had the onset of diabetes.  This is why I cannot stand to be anywhere I can’t leave when I am ready.  We have to have our little Zoomie car with us wherever we go or I am like a caged animal.

Those times we have had to do without a vehicle while our car was being repaired were pure torture.

This Sunday is our youngest child’s 21st birthday.  In honor of her birthday, we are giving away all of our books. Please see our special notice regarding this.
